![]() What's the most bang for the buck for my 1984 daily driver? I'm considering either the Holley 174 Procharger or a 347 Stoker. Current mods on my stock block 302 are:
302 Stock Block, World Products Windsor Jr. Heads, Crane Cam and Roller Rockers, Weiand Ford Action Plus Intake, Holley 650 Double Pumper, Under Drive Pulleys, Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch, Ford Motorsports Aluminum Drive Shaft, 8.8 rear with 3.73 Gearing, Mac Shorty Headers and H-Pipe, Flowmaster 2 Chamber Mufflers, K&N Filter If I go with the Procharger is it a simple bolt on? Should I be concerned with by bottom end? If I go with the 347 short block do I need to be concerned with anything other than what type pistons? I want to run pump gas. My current best ET is 13.76 at 101 on street radials, I'd like to be in the 12's. Thanks for any help offered. |

![]() How many miles on are your 302?
I've never heard of a Holly ProCharger before? ProCharger is made by ATI in Lexana, KS. Maybe I'm confused? Depending upon how much boost you're going to put through her, depends on whether or not you need to be concerned about the bottom end. Are you planning on say 6lbs or 12? Big difference. If you're serious about going the stroker route, do alot of research before making any purchases. Are you planning on buying a complete stroker short block, or are you going to build it up yourself? I purchased my kit from DSS and overall, was happy with the service. I had a local race shop prep the block and a professional race engine builder do the assembly and notching of the block. I worked closely with my engine builder and helped out when I could. If you do the build-up yourself - get ready for some serious work, grinding especially. The girdle, oil control, oil pump pick-up, etc all needed modification to clear/fit. Personnally, I would do the build-up again as I know exactly what was done, what all the tolerances are, what is in it, etc. which for me, is peace of mind. However, some like to just pick-up the phone and order up HP. Whatever floats your boat. ![]() E

![]() From what I herd the holley blower is not a simple bolt on like they say it is. I guess it throws belts all the time and is a pain to get it working. They use teflon on the end of the blades to keep it street friendly, but they ware out fast and cause loss off boost. A blower/ carb combo will not be good for a daily driver either. You will also need to cut a hole in your hood because it will not fit.
I would do the stroker. Wade

![]() Thanks for the input.
The shop that's going to do the work has suggested that I just go for a 351 swap instead of either of the other options. He says it's a no brainer swap with significant gains to be made. Thoughts? |

![]() personally i think that the holley blower is a waste of money i have a buddy who has one on top of his 351 in an 85 gt he has heads a cam built up short block pretty much the works and when we run my wifes '88gt which is a completely stock longblock except for 24#injectors cobra mass air meter and 65mm tb with a paxton sn-93 supercharger making 10# of boost we are dead even neither of us could pull on the other from 1st gear to 4th closest race i've ever seen oh yeah he had 3.73's we have 3.27's he was prettyupset we could even hang he swears it runs 11's but i know my wifes gt only runs 12's.

![]() I dont like blowers on carbs that much. I would build a 11:1 compression 351, port your heads, and do some other engine work. You could easily have a 400hp 351 that puts you in the high 11's on slicks.

![]() Personally, I think you should get rid of the action plus manifold and get a Performer RPM or a Weiand stealth, switch to a hydraulic roller cam if you haven't already, get an electric fan and you should be close to 12's right there. If this doesn't quite get you there then you could just get a NOS sniper nitrous kit and you'll have spent a lot less than the 351 or powercharger.
I've got a similar combo and by going from a Offenhauser dual port manifold to an edelbrock RPM I went from 97.98mph to 104.77. and a best et of 13.36. An electric fan and a better launch should get me pretty close to the 12's, not to mention my old Carter 625 carb, soon to be replaced with a 650 DP. With the Windsor jr's, you've got more compression than me so with a better intake and a well matched cam you should get there.

![]() the holley blower with a carb is simple... because it's a draw though... you dont have to seal the carb etc.. BUT, I know someone that broke their crank... trying to run more boost... with the B&M blower...sooo....
http://www.waynewestlake.com/trent/kurtboom.htm the cool thing with the 347 is that you dont have to TELL anyone what it is... ![]() you'll need to by some extra stuff if you go 351... new intake.. headers.. etc...

![]() with my s-trim i cracked one balancer like in your buddy's pic and about a month later i shattered the whole snout off the back of another balancer of course it took out my electric fan, smashed a bunch of fins on the radiator, bent the water pump shaft hit the oil pan and put a hole in it and then proceeded to roll under the car and went under the passenger rear tire and put a huge dent in my wheel and a hole in my tire and when the balancer flew apart it took the crankshaft keyway with it which in turn spun the pistons into the non moving valves and bent all 16 valves on my edelbrock heads the car sat for about 6 months after this just out of pure spite i was so pi$$ed but i fixed it and it lives once again.
