Surging??....

Cruised the town tonight for a good hour and a half. Got on it a couple of times. Lots of stop and go with the lights, etc. Started to head home and there is a bridge I drive under that I like to get on the car a little and hear my exhaust roaring. Anyhow, I'm in third and get on it, but the car starts surging and doesnt rev up like usual when I get on it. It wasnt surging hard, kind of like a miss, but it was like there was no power. I pull up to a red light(it idled normal), light turns green, I take off normally in first, shift to second and give it some gas and it surges the same. I've had this car a month and I dont need anything wrong with it yet :) Into third, still surges. I drop my brother off, and am kind of driving it fast through town. I've got one more street before I turn to my apartment. I get on it through second and third and it seems to run fine. Was cruising through town bogging it down? It's got a bigger cam in it, with higher compression pistons. I'm a novice with a semi-built car....:) Any ideas? Temp gauge was normal. I'll start it tomorrow and see if anything changes.

Would an exhaust leak cause any sort of problem like that?

Maybe a clogged fuel filter or your fuel pump is getting weak.

A fuel pump going sour can be the cause of this. Also a clogged fuel filter. Tell us more about the pump and filter. I have heard of clogged injectors causing this. Any way it sounds like fuel to me.

I ran it today and it pulled strong like it usually does. I've been emailing with the guy I bought it from. I asked him if he had ever changed the fuel filter and I am waiting for a reply. He had mentioned checking all vacuum hoses and sensor connections. Everything looked good except for the positive and negative wire to the Blaster coil were loose enough I could undo the nuts with my finger. I tightened those done, took it for a spin and everything runs normal. I'll wait to see what he says about the fuel pump and filter. Thanks for your input!!

I had the same thing happen to my car right after i bought it. I was driving up the road and the car started surging a little, but it didn' stop there. It ran fine for another five minutes, then i went to hit the gas and nothing happened, when i pushed in the clutch the rpm's dropped to zero and the car wouldn't start. I let it sit, banged on the gas tank and it worked fine again, for a while. I ended up replacing the fuel pump and it hasn't givin me a problem since.
