Unhappy Surging idle....

Ok, just before I went to Oklahoma for the weekend I swapped out my stock mass air meter for a 73mm C&L unit. From the 2 shops I called, the meter is automatically calibrated for 19lbs injectors if there is no sample tube in it. Is this true from what you know? It came with a 30lbs sample tube, so I just took it off. When I got to Oklahoma, the car didn;t want to find a steady idle. It would idle between 500-1000 rpms, and die from time to time when coming to a stop light. Anybody know why it would do this? It would take close to 30 seconds for it to find a steady idle. It doesn't seem to do this at my 3900ft elevation, but at the 1300ft elevation in Oklahoma. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. BTW, for those who helped on the boost gauge post, I was able to get up to about 4.5 lbs in Oklahoma. But the car ran like a whole new beast out there! If only I liked that state!

i dont think you can run the meter without a sample tube. i have never heard that. you have to be either running really rich or lean... get a sample tube.

take care,
adam

A C&L MAF must have a sample tube to run properly, in your case a 19lb. tube.

Ok, guess I need to get with Dugan Racing and let them know. They are the ones who said I could run without it. Talked with one other shop and they said the same thing. Not sure which shop it was. Will it hurt anything right now to run without the tube until one comes in?

im not sure what running without one will do (run rich or lean). but either of them isnt good for your motor. if you are really rich you will wash down the cylinder walls and premote wear as well as have bogging and iratic idle and hard starts. if its lean you can run into detonation which will destroy your motor.

hope it works out,
adam
