Unhappy surging idle, code 34

I noticed shortly after I installed long tubes and a catback system, that my Idle surges up and down about 150 200 rpms around the normal 700. It doesnt do it all the time, sometimes it bounces up and down then settles, sometimes it continues. When it does this you can hear a slight note in the exhaust like a surge sound when the idle goes up and down.

I looked up the code, and it has to do with the egr, but doing research, I cant get a fix on whether a faulty egr or evp switch could cause surging Idle. Anyone have this problem? Im planning on pulling the egr assy and clean it, but I want to be sure this is it before I go thru the trouble.
100.00 for the assy.

thanks in advance

You installed the long tubes and cat back system yourself? you sure there are no leaks?

Then make sure those O2 sensors are connected and pwrground correctly.

If you have a multimeter do the following to check your EGR - EVP sensor:
-key off, disconnect EVP sensor connector
-connect the digital multimeter to wires black/white to Orange/white.
-disconnect vacuum line to EGR
-connect vacuum pump, increase vacuum

results 5500 ohms to 100 ohms as vacuum increases to 33 kpa.
If your multimeter jumps or drops out, sensor is worn in one place (replace sensor).

another try:
-key on
connect multimeter to cables orange/white and black/white. in volts you should get 4 to 6 volts.
