pilot bearing.

Chris, isnt the input shaft pilot bearing smaller on the svo 4cyl? that is the only problem you would have. i know of one in my local yard out of an 88 turbo coupe. i am thinking about doing the same thing.

also, this may help you out: info on tranny

PKRWUD 06-02-2002 06:22 AM

James, that's an excellent point, and you might be right. I was under the impression that the SVO & turbo T-Bird had a larger diameter pilot, like the V8's, rather than the usual 4 cyl. size. If you're right, then the input shaft will require a different pilot. If I'm right, it's straight across. Your link may have had the answer, but I'm too tired to go read it.

:)

Take care,
-Chris

All 2.3 trannies have the .59 Pilot. The 5.0 trannies are .668.

The SVO trannies have a granny low 3.50 first gear too!
Would be good for pulling! hehehhe

Read that right off the travel brochure, did ya?

:D

Actually, i'm pretty damn hungry right now, and I think that's what I'm gonna go get. Thanks for the inspiration! I'll leave yours in the fridge. Come by and get anytime you want (other than this coming weekend. I'm going to be "busy").

:)

Take care,
-Chris

NO! the input shaft on the 4banger is a touch longer. Plus the 4banger's 1st gear in something like 4.0 to 1. That trans is only rated to something like 225ft lbs.

PKRWUD 06-02-2002 10:28 PM

No, the SVO T-5 is different. It is actually an extra-heavy-duty FRPP "World Class" T-5 transmission is a "street legal" replacement for all fox body production T-5's. It's rated at 330 ft.lbs. of torque.

Take care,
-Chris

Re: SVO tranyy in a 5.0

ok lets get something straight the 4 cly tranny has a smaller diameter and is longer..the v8 has a bigger diameter and is shorter..yes it will bolt in.the gear ratio is different the 4cly is like 4.30to1 and the v8 is like 2.95 to 1..if the clutch chatters when you put the 4cyl tranny in its because the shaft is smaller and doesnt ride on the pilot bearing because its smaller.some people use these trannys in v8 because they have taller gear ratio and they shift into 4th gear better that the v8.not rated for much power but both trannys are weak neways..i have the world class t5 and rebuilt every year
