Synthetic Help Lifter Prob. ?

I have a collapsed/Stuck Lifter and it is not very severe yet and i was advised that adding lifter de-gunker and then immediately changing over to synthetic oil might help the problem? What do you think?

I've used a product from Hapco (Fraser, Mi) That frees stuck lifters, etc... It worked great. I have only used it on my daily transportation cars and not on any performance vehicles. For my Mustang I would just do it right and replace all the lifters rather than put a band-aid on it.

Goto your auto-parts store and look for a can that says CD-2 It will clean all the varnish deposits off your lifters, rings, etc. All you do is change your oil, empty the can into your oil,run til your next oil change,it should clear up the problem.

I'm going with Mustanguy on this, too. I've used the CD-2 oil detergent with very good results. Start out with a fresh oil & filter change (I'm using 10W-30, that's the highest viscosity I'd recommend to anyone) and put the CD-2 in. That stuff will turn your oil black within 1000 miles, maybe less. That's normal, since it's just detergent, and it's cleaning and suspending dirt & crud. Change it all again in 1000 miles, and if it still has a lifter problem, repeat with the CD-2. If you want to change over to synthetic oil, by all means, go for it. You'll run cooler and longer between oil changes, and your engine will probably run smoother. Hope this helps. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif
