Default Systemax or AFR?

I'm looking at getting new heads, intake and a cam (AFR 165-58cc heads, Edelbrock Performer intake and a fairly mild cam) and saw that the Holley Systemax is about the same price but is a matched set. I have gotten the impression that Holley has been having some problems with their heads, like the TFS with the valve guides, but don't know for sure. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with the Systemax II?

For your combo, use the AFR 165 or the Trick Flow Twisted Wedge.

yes the Systemax II it a good kit and it comes with the Intake too and it is one of the best if not the best out there right now for the 302 EFI But as you can see I got the AFR's and i love it I have not gotten it to the track yet they are closed here But with the it 12's and even 11's still being all N/A if it is all tuned up and the car hooks up nicely too. But I think the Afr's of the TFS TW are better heads. But the kit is nice too I have heard the Heads had a problems, But that they are all fixed now and work better then the older ones.

Well I'm going to be different and say te kit is great, atleast it has been for me. I had the BAD heads and went 12.6 @ 108mph full weight. I swapped out the non-emissions cam and went to a AFM N-61 .544/.568, 228/236, 110. I fly cut the stock pistons and added a 8pt cage and lost the P/S and A/C and went 12.16 @ 111.5. The 24lb injectors were going lean up top so I went to a 30# injector and 75mm TB and I have went a best of 11.92 @ 112.8 still very rich (I need to do more tuning on the Speedbrain, I have went 114.9mph on the stock EEC)

With the correct gear that the AFM cam is ground for I hope to go 11.40's or quicker still with my NA 302.

If the AFR's were out I may have went that way but the flow numbers on the Holleys aren't bad, better then the E'Brocks and any Motorsport heads and even the Trickflows from what I have seen. A buddy at a local shop has been doing lots of flow testing and has seen some very poor flowing TFS heads right out of the box, So far the E'brock Vixtors have outflowed anything they have tested even a set of TFS-R's.

The Holley is the best intake out in my opinion that accopnaied with any decent heads should get you to your goal.

Good Luck,

Rick
