t-5 or 3550?

I posted before about which trans to go for, but didn't really get much of a response. I'm a high school student and part time worker, so I probably won't be able to go for a brand spanking new 3550 and spend $1300. Would going with a used t-5 suit me well enough? or would I be able to find a used tremec 3550? I don't plan on making this heavy vert. go any faster than low-mid 13's (not in the real near future neways...probably latterrr...it will take a loonnnggg time for me) so would the t-5 hold up? thanx in advance.:D

A fresh T-5 will suit you just fine. They can hold up to alot more than people give them credit for.

One of the main causes of failure is input shaft endplay, so make sure the one you get doesnt have extensive endplay, and has good synchros (also go bad easily)

Good luck

I HAVE GONE THROUGH 5 T-5'S AND ONE TREMEC IN THE PAST 2 YEARS (I BEAT MY CAR LIKE I STOLE IT) THE T-5'S USUALLY HOLD UP DECENT, EXCEPT FOR THE GOOD OL' SHAFT END PLAY PROBLEM, THE TREMEC WAS MY FAULT THOUGH, I DIDNT HAVE A SHORT THROW SHIFTER, THE ONLY WAY I HAVE SEEN TREMECS BREAK IS THE PARTS WEARING OUT, IF YOU POWER SHIFT ALL THE TIME THE SYNCHRO'S AND SLIDERS DONT HOLD UP VERY WELL. ANYWAYS, WITH YOUR MODS AND WITH NORMAL DRIVING I THINK A T-5 WILL WORK FINE.
