T-5
Since I have decided to use a T-5 Transmission in my swap. I have access to two T-5's only one problem they happen to be from an 86 SVO and an 88' Turbo Coupe. My question are these transmissions the same as a the 5.0 T-5?

It is my understanding that they are identical. I could be wrong though. I have an 83 T-5 manual here and they look the same.

No, they are not the same! The SVO/Turbo Coupe T-5 had a steeper first gear ratio, like 4.1, as compared to the 3.2x first gear in the 5.0 T-5. Hope this helps.

Will the T-5 from the SVO or Turbo Coupe take the beating of a 350 hp engine? Will that higher 1st gear from the T-5 work well on the car? I know the T-5 on regular 4 cylinder cars had a longer input shaft than the one on 5.0's will these tranny's have the same length input shaft as the 5.0's??

You need to swap in an input shaft from a Mustang T-5.

I don't know if they'd handle the torque load if they had such a low first gear ratio.
The original T-5 for the 5.0 was rated for 260lb/ft of torque. That was because of the weak needle bearing input shaft, and the weak 3.35:1 first gear. Neither the Turbocoupe or the SVO delivered powerful low end torque, which is probably why they held together. And yes, the 4 banger input shaft is different from the 5.0. |

The 4 cylinder transmission also require a smaller pilot bearing. I made the mistake of puting one of these in mine and i broke the input shaft with around 250HP
