T-5 Tranny?

Anyone ever heard of running 10W/30 synthetic oil in a T-5 instead of Mercon Automatic Transmission Fluid?

The guy at the local transmission shop says they do it all the time! He claims, they shift smoother and run much quieter.

I don't know..... Doesn't sound right to me?
Any comments?
Phil

if you want a fried tranny use it. otherwise the redline fluid is best.

Why not use synthetic transmission fluid instead? I've run Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid for years.

Don't the non World Class T-5's use gear oil like rear ends do? That's what I've heard, maybe i'm wrong.

I've never heard of that. Rearend fluid seems a bit to thick for a tranny.

omg, i wouldnt try that, but i was told you can use type-f atf fluid, and that it keeps it cooler, i tried it, and everything went well, but i ended up going back to cheap ole dexron/mercon, why spend money on high dollar synthetics? besides, if you race alot, synthetic, or 10/30 isnt gonna save it from breaking if it;s gonna break, it will break, regardless what fluid is in it, why not just use what for intended?

Older manual transmissions use gear oil, the only reason T5s don't is because the bearings are so small and the gear oil doesn't penetrate them, this is what I'm told.
