T5 Swap or Supercharger?
Hey All.
I'm looking into two options for my car. Either swapping to a T5 (approximately $1500 for parts and other) and/or a supercharger. What would you suggest? The current set up is an '89 LX 5.0L with an AOD tranny, 3.27 gears. I'm also about to swap the gears for 4.10s. What superchargers are the best bang for the buck in your opinion? Thanks, Justin

This is something you need to decide what you want the most.If you want the 5-speed swap, then go for it.If you want more power, then go the blower route, but you gotta know/decide what you want the worst of the 2
As for the gears, you wont need the 4.10's if you go the blower route the most you'll need is 3.55's to 3.73's. |

I have the AOD and yes, a stick woudl be fun... BUT... when it comes down the REAL RACING... the AOD is going to be more consistent... and a supercharger is going to give you better times in the long run... the 5 speed will make your car alittle faster but that's only if you can shift perfectly anyway...
if I had 1500 burning a hole in my pocket, supercharger woudl be the way to go... -as

My vote is for a supercharger...more specifically, the Paxton NOVI 1000. (I may be a bit biased )

cost...
Just a note...$1500 will just get you started with a blower if you are going to run anything more than 8 PSI.
I am going to go over $5000 by the time I am done next week... SQ-trim Anderson power pipe 42# injectors chip 80 mm Lightning MAF T-rex MSD etc...etc... I'd just hate to see you go down that road and end up blowing a lot more cash than you intended too.

I just can't see getting rid of a automatic for a stick, yikes. You can't beat a auto. I agree sticks are fun, especially in traffic, on hills and not holding as much horsepower. What was the question again?
Now if you were talking Lenco, yeah I'd switch. But then I'd have to sell a car to buy one.

Well, I'm not looking to drag the car, I'm more interested in the auto-x scene.
I do NOT want to dump a ton of money into this either at this time, which is what the blower would entail at some point I'm sure. I have a '99 Jeep Wrangler that has priority, but I'd like more out of this car. I'm also not looking at completely tricking the engine with rocker arms and such at this time. I'm just looking for more fun while driving it, and more of an ability to not get my *** kicked by any car that trys off the line. This car SUCKS *** off the line with the 3.27 gears. If anyone is wanting to convert their T5 to an AOD, get in touch. I'm more than willing to do a direct swap with you, as long as all parts are good, that is. Thanks for the info. Justin
