Adding A/C to a '66 Smog pumped V-8
I am trying to add factory/dealer added A/C to a 1966 Mustang convertible from Southern California with a smog pump and power steering. Problem?? The smog pump belt and pulleys are directly in line with where the A/C Belt is going to run. Does anyone out there have a Smog pumped '66 V-8 with A/C and PS? Could I get a digital picture of the "set-up" from a car with all of these accesories??
I really want to keep the smog pump (proves that this Michigan built convertible is from California) and thought I had struck paydirt when I landed a complete A/C system from a power steering equipped car. But, now the smog pump is an issue I hadn't really considered. Thanks, Thom |

is there anyway that you could shim it out enough to run another belt?? Or, could you move your accessories around and get an idler pulley, and run them all off of one belt?? Just trying to throw some suggestions your way, hope I maybe sparked an idea or something for you. Good luck.

Im sure if he took some inspiration from like the never model vehicles, it could work out. It would be alot of work, but would be pretty cool.

Did '65 California 289's have smog pumps? If so, I could probably get you a picture. Right now my hood is covered with boat parts or I would go look. I've got a September '64 289 with either factory or dealer installed factory air.

Re: Adding A/C to a '66 Smog pumped V-8
I have a 1966 289 2v cal car with a/c, p/s, and a smog pump. the a/c, smog pump and the crank pully run off a third belt closest to the rad. the a/c needs to be inline with the smog pump to run on its belt.I dont have a picture rite now but will take one later My problum is i want to delete the smog pump but keep my a/c if i remove my smog pump i dont have a third groove on my water pump for a shorter belt can anyone tell me how dearborn cars set up? is it a water pump pully with 3 grooves and a shorter belt?

iwill try to get better pic later with my camera. why dont you just git rid of the smog pump? it's ugly in a already crowed engine bay with a/c and p/s as you can tell form the pic. I am lucky enough to have my cal black plate as proof of hertage (last reg in 2004) to show to my buds here in N.H.
