TCI Streetfighter AOD opinions ?
I have the chance to buy a brand new never used (pre owned) TCI street fighter AOD. He wants $1000 cash and I believe it still has the warranty, the reason he cant use it is because he dealt through a local parts shop instead of with tci directly and they sold him a mustang one when he needed it for a lincon.
Anyways, would this tranny be strong enough for 10 second power ? Im talking running 125+ mph. Ive been considering going with a c4 but if I can buy this one for so cheap (this is canadian money btw). TCI's webpage recomends it for 450hp cars, mine will be making closer to 650 at the flywheel. Would I be able to upgrade the tranny to make it stronger ? Also I dont know whether its lockup or non lockup (didnt think to ask) would a non lockup still get me to and fromt he track and maybe the occasional saturday night cruise ? this isnt a street car, its a racecar that I plan to drive on the street once in awhile, no heat, no carpet, no center console, no power steering. Also what sort of performance difference am I looking at between the lockup and non lockup ? ------------------ Jonathan Cole Silver 89 Notchback 12.404 @ 109 with 60 shot Currently in parts, waiting for upgrades ------------------ Jonathan Cole Silver 89 Notchback 12.404 @ 109 with 60 shot FRPP 3.73:1 Gears B&M Ripper Shifter |

I wouldn't trust it....i went through 3 AOD's on a mid-14 car.
And any decent shop would trade the trans back if they sent him the wrong one(which i doubt they did and i believe the trans is the same anyway) The parts in the motorsport"low gear set" are from a lincoln trans...... I would be leery of it...just my opinion....and for 10 second passes you want a c-4 anyway. ------------------ 4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's Check it out at http://www.burnouts.webprovider.com |

Yeah...I'd be pretty suspicious as well. A C4 is the only automatic besides a Lentech that I'd trust in the 10 sec. range. And a Lentech is about twice what you'd get the TCI or a well built C4 for.
