Angry TCI torque converters

I just got a tci torque converter second hand and Found out when I took it to get balloon plates welded on it that it was out of balance real bad. When they put it on the lathe it looked like it was going to jump off because they welded the cover on wrong and the guy that did it said that it is a good thing I did not run it because it could have done engine damage and or transmission damage.

The guy who bought it called tci and told them and they said that they would not fix it because he could not find his receipt.

I had to pay an extra 150 to get it fixed right.
The guy that fixed it said that they had counter weights welded across almost half the converter to try to cover up their screw up, he is also a friend of a friend so I know he is being straight with me and he said it will work great now that he fixed it right but I will never buy anything else from TCI.

Join the club. I've been burned TWICE by lack of quality in their products. First time was a Transcat kit in a C4 automatic that wouldn't shift for $hit; second time was a few months ago when the Saturday Night Special ("special" doesn't begin to describe it, but I digress) on my AOD stripped out its own internal splines!!! I've never seen that happen on ANY converter before or since, but nonetheless it was my last dealing with TCI. TCI must stand for Total Crap Industries.

I too am a member of the TCI screwed club. I ordered a Street Fighter C4 and torque converter from them for my 69 stang a couple of years ago. First they sent me the wrong converter, so I had to send it back and fight to have them pay my shipping costs. Then, after that, I finally got it all in the car, and it ran like crap. After talking to them and trying a few different shifters, I discovered that it was the valve body that was messed up. So, I had to take it out and again, fight to have my shipping costs refunded to send it back. Finally, when I got the new valve body, it ran right. The problem was, the tranny didn't even last a year before it started acting funny. I sold the car just after a year of owning the tranny and the guy called me the next day and told me that the tranny died on him the day after he bought it from me. TCI only warrantied the tranny for a year. Good thing I gave him another stock C4 with the car, otherwise I'd have felt like a jerk selling him the car. Bottom line: DON'T BUY TCI!! jmho

Well I think they screwed them selves by screwing other people because it is now my personal goal to make sure that nobody buys anything else from them and I know I cant put them out of business myself but their reputation will get around and come back to hurt them and I know I can cost them a little money.
