Unhappy TFI Module...Fuel Pump....Other....HELP!

What would the symptom of a failing TFI Module be? My car is an 89 LX 5.0L, and recently, after highway driving for about 50-60 miles, when I get off of an exit and begin to slow down, the car stalls, and then will re-start, but will immediately stall again, until I eventually will not be able to start it until the engine cools. When it is about to stall, it feels as thought the car is out of gas, even thought I have over 3/4 of a tank. I have a new fuel pump to install and I have also read alot about the failing TFI module and the recall by Ford years ago.

Does this sound like the pump or the TFI module to you all???? Please reply with suggestions. This is driving me crazy! Thanks in advance.....

Sounds like a TFI module to me. Since it's only $29.99 for a new Wells TFI unit at Auto Zone, it's a no brainer to try that first since they are known to cause stalling. If your car has less than 100,000 miles Ford will even pay for a new one !! If the problem persists, it could be the fuel pump, distributor magnetic pickup. Or a rare problem I had with a FI chevy, the computer itself would shut down when the motor got hot.

I'd say it's probably your TFI as well. If that doesn't fix it, then it's also possible that your Pickup inside the dizzy is on the fritz. I'd go get a Wells TFI (make sure they give you the grey one, and NOT the white one) check the box before you walk out of the store.

i had the same problem with the same symptoms. I replaced the TFI module and the stator and neither one worked. When I replaced the fuel pump it stopped. I would try the fuel pump since you already have it.

Also, Autozone will bench test it for free. It's a cheap way to see if that is what your problen is.

When the TFI is failing, it's unusual for it to stall the engine, and then immediately restart.

Sounds like the fuel pump to me.

Take care,
