TFI Module & TPS
I wanted to get two things cleared up...I am trying to narrow down a few things. On a 95 GT, is the TPS adjustable? I have heard it both ways - the computer takes an initial reading so there is no sense trying to get it to .98v like the earlier years...so how would you tell if it is going bad?
As for the TFI Module, can it gradually wear out, or is it one of those "works or doesn't? Thanks in advance, and again, they are both on a 95 GT... |
To my knowledge the '95 TPS is adjustable and the computer will 'accept' the setting, if changed. The TPS is a very tiny part of the system and unless drastically out of whack, it doesn't have much effect on performance but it's still worth keeping within specs.
The TFI module degrades gradually over time, mostly due to engine heat. They usually fail with no warning and it can get ugly so I would replace it at 50-60,000 miles to be safe. I let mine go for 100,000 miles with no problems but I can't recommend this. |
Yeah they do degrade over time. Then sometimes they get so bad they just go poof. Then you are stranded on the side of the road. So I would take Mr50's advice, I would change it if you feel leary.
