Question TFS heads

I just brought a set of the TFS trackheat heads (o-ring)for my 87 gt. I have the X303 cam in a rebuilt 306 with forge TRW piston(four valve reliefs). Will I have, valves to piston clearance problems. And if so has anyone fly cut your piston for clearance in the block??!!

You have problems. I think the X cam has too much lift for flat-top pistons and that head. The TRW reliefs are for inline valves and the TW are not inline. You can remove the pistons and have them flycut and then rebalance the pistons and the crank, but is it worth it?

My advice use a cam with lift range.500-.510" W/1.6 rocker. Yes the track heat head can handle up to .600" lift but you don't have to use everything available.

If you really want to have big lift then there are off the shelf pistons with TW reliefs already cut in them. Trick Flow sells many varieties (made by Arias) and DSS (for example) also produces their own. This means a tear down (or even a new short block) but you need to do it right.

Remember just because the cam lift # says it will work doesn't mean you won't have interference problems. Always check that piston to valve clearance after installing the cam on abnormal/non-stock applications.

Do not fly cut these in the block. Due to the massive amount of metal that has to be removed the rotating assembly balance will be grossly out of tolerance. Can we say shake, rattle and roll?
Mike
