These f@#%^ 02 sensors!!
Alright, they are not on my mustang, but on a friends 97 f-150 v6 http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif he has a rebuit motor, but says it lacks in power, and the check engine light is on? i told him to get some 02's, so he brought them to me, but the problem is, i couldnt get them out, i ran out of wd-40 maybe i will get some tomorrow, any advice you can give me? sorry, but my mustangs were easy to get out.?
feels like they are gonna strip if i pull any harder... |
Instead of yanking as hard as you can, put the wrench on the sensor and tap it with a hammer in the direction of loosening it, sometimes a little bit of a shock is the best way to get a stubborn bolt to unstick.

if you do keep yanking at it, be sure and use a box wrench instead of an open ended or you'll strip it for sure. Have you tried impact tools with an oxygen socket???

Or you can take a hammer and break the top of the sensor off. After that you should be able to fit a socket on it. I have had to do this myself. It's so much easier if you are replacing them anyway. My 2¢.

Try running the engine a few min. to heat it up then try.

Use a box wrench with a cheater pipe and just apply force to it slowly. Once it cracks loose it should be pretty easy to remove. Use a penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench, not WD-40.
Heating the exhaust pipe is a good idea, but may be hard to get your hands in there without getting burnt. I don't know how much room you have to work, though. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |
Thanx guys, im gonna go tackle it now...sheesh it's hot, but i realy dont have much room to swing a wrench, much less a cheater bar, but im gonna cut the wires and slip a box end on it so i dont strip it....and again i appreciate the help http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif have a nice day
