Post TF Heads Question?

I'm not sure what exacvtly is happenning, but i'm geeting some valve noise or an exhaust leak or something. On first start up, it sounds perfect no noise. But after it reaches temp i start getting that noise. I,ve heard sometimes you have to adjust the valve spring torque on roller rockers. Is this true? if it's exhaust, it's a really small leak that opens up with the heat expansion. I guess that's a possibility.
The motor only has 60k miles on it.

Are your pushrods the right length? Trick Flow calls for 6.75 pushrods.

I'm not sure. The heads were already on the engine when i bought the car. The noise has only come about rescently. I've sat and listened to it and there is a tapping coming from the right side towards the back twoo cylinders. The other side sounds like normal valve noise. This is why i'm thinking there is something a miss with the roller rockers or valve assembly on that side. i'm trying to avoid taking the heads off but if i have too i will. Can assemblies loosen up in the heads though?

You might want to call Trickflow. I do know that they made a bunch of defective Twisted Wedge heads, something about the valve guides. A buddy's car had what sounded like rocker noise and turned out it was the heads. TFS put new guides, valves and seals in for free. Might be worth checking up on.

Good Luck

I have been through this!!!

OK, the older TFS heads had cast iron guides that have wear problems. Trick Flow will replace the guides and perform a valve job for free. You just pay the shipping.

Mine were also used heads that made no noise at start-up, but after driving a while they would tick. It was the guides. Look for plugs that are burning a little oil, or you can check them fairly easily yourself.

Remove the valve covers and remove all the rocker arms. fill a cylinder with about 100 psi from an air compressor. Remove the valvespring. Release the air from the cylinder, but still hol the valve stem. Dont let it drop. If you can feel any wiggle at all the guides are worn.

I had my TW's repaired and they still tick a little when warm. I have 2 friends with these heads as well and they also periodically tick a little.

ok here was my problem. At start up i had no noise. After the car warmed up the valvetrain noise came. I adjusted rockers more times in one week then i have fingers. I was getting very aggrivated since i had no more than 200 miles on my engine. So i finally decided to pull my lower intake. I went to pull out the lifters and thought " damn why wont these pull out". I know that the lifters should pull out. So i finally got 1 or 2 out on the 7 and 8 cylinder. I put it beside a stock lifter and it was about 1/8" taller than stock. Now trick flow calls for a 6.75 pushrod. I was running a 6.8 and a lifter that was 1/8" (.125) taller. So this was like me running a 6.925 pushrod. I now am getting a 6.65 pushrod and with the addtional hieght on the lifter i will be at 6.775. This is well withing tolerance that trickflow claims. Could this be your problem?

Thanks for all the insight. So far it's sounding like i have to do some internal head inspecting. I,ll check my lifter and pushrod height, also for guide plate play. Do any of you have the correct torqueing for assembly and mounting of the heads?
