throttle body recommendations
I need a throttle body for my 94 GT and I'm having problems finding a decent one. I have/had a BBK 70mm but have had nothing but problems with the TPS with it. So I want a different company. I would have gone Accu-Fab but they don't make any for the 94-95 and they don't have plans to.
So who would you guys recommend? Gotta find something soon. XR1stang |
actually, I just got off the phone with Accu-Fab about their throttle bodies for the 94/95 year. They have made one that is out for testing right now, but they haven't gone full production. LOL these cars have been on the road and at the track now for going on 8 years and they STILL don't have one for us.
They told me that people have been waiting a couple of years already for one and she wouldn't give me an ETA on production run for them... so I'm at square one still. XR1stang |
I buy Ford Racing parts whenever I can. I have a Ford Racing 65mm TB...so far no trouble.

What are your mods? I have a 65mm bbk/edelbrock and its fine.

I'm running the Edelbrock/BBK 70mm with no problems too. I didn't know you had to have a special tb for a 94/95, I thought the only difference was the elbow.

I paid $150.00 for a new Ford Racing polished 65mm TB and 67mm EGR off of Ebay.

NotchJohnson - my mods are:
TFS heads with a stage II port from CHP TFS Street Heat intake Ed Curtis cam Full exhaust - FMS equal length shorties, Bassani x w/o cats, Borla XR1 cat back blah blah blah. Currently working on a new bottom end which is going to be a fairly high compression, for a street car, 331 with a shot of nitrous and I also have an appointment for a chip to be burned with some dyno time to tune this thing. I'm thinking that once I get the bottom end finished up that a 65mm will be a bit too small for me, and actually I wonder if a 70mm is going to be big enough. I'm going to have to do a new MAF too while I'm at it and when I do the bottom end the entire fuel system is getting upgraded to support all of it. mike72678 - thanks for the offer, but I have a question for you. How can you get me a TB from Accufab for my car when Accufab told me yesterday they aren't making them. They literally told me that they had made one for the SN95 that was out in real world testing and they haven't set anything up for a production run. If you have the hook up then I would definately be interested in getting one. $259 for an Accufab piece isn't bad, and you get what you pay for. chris91LX - it's been a while since I have worked on a fox so I don't remember exactly the differences between them. Where does the EGR mount on yours, isn't it off of the TB itself? and I think the TPS is in a different location too. bigred90gt - yes I have contacted BBK about this and they have pretty much told me they don't know why it's doing it and are being difficult to say the least to get an RMA for this much less a replacement from them. /shrug I guess I just won't do any more business with them... I have gone through a total of 3 different TPSs to see if I had perhaps just bought a faulty one but the two new ones have read about the same which is somewhere above 1.3x when I test them. I can "adjust" that down a little, but nothing close to being in an acceptable range. Funny thing is I have been told many times now that the 94/95 TPS can't be adjusted even though I have done it myself. I can adjust it from the 1.3x range down to the 1.1x range by playing with the screws like a fox. I've been told the computer controls the TPS voltage but every shop book I have read on my car says it has the same acceptable ranges as the foxs. The only one that reads in acceptable range is the stock TB with any of the TPSs. I hope that answered everyones questions :) XR1stang |
I have been told, but I have never done it because I don't need to, that you can take a drill and widen out the screw holes in the tps to get the adjustment you need. I don't know what else to tell you. Hope all works out.

I drill out (actually "slotting them " would be more correct IMHO) tps's all the time he11 my 02 4.6 exploder the first thing i did to it was dril it out and set it to 1.1 at idle ... now the 5r55 shifts like i got a mild shift kit in it :) also fords ecu actually reads anything less then 1.1 as idle not the 1.0 that is the common max voltage number thrown around but if 1.1 is all you can get out odf it it is realisticlt to high becasue if it sticks at all coming down then you are above 1.1... If your car is a standard then all you are looking for is at least 4.6v WOT or more you go into the wot tables at 4.6 volts so anymore then that is just coving you backside i case it doesn't consistently open quite the same evertime. Also remember to go the the adaptive idle relearn ever time you reset your TPS or it doesn't do any good immeditly. good luck.
PS the 94-95 bodyys are different... in more ways then one the eger is only one example the throttle cable has a completely differt attaching system as well.. you could go to a "fox" throttle body if you had an aftermarket upper and took the elbow off, got a fox thrrottle bracket, egr plate and did some custom bending to the eger line to get it to line up right... this all assuming you have a cowl hood or something to clear the tbody and assorted stuff that would now hit the stock hood. |
tps
XR1stang-
Sounds like you just need a new TPS. Or slot the adjustment holes as the others suggested. No need for an entire new throttle body if you are just having problems with the TPS. Good luck. |
If you do want a new TB, I've heard nothing but good things about Accufab. That's the company I plan on going with. ~Brian

I have had 3 different TPS's so far so my guess is it's the TB that is bad, not the TPS. I'm going to try "slotting" one this weekend to see if that "fixes" it for me, I'll post my results soon :) XR1stang |
