throttle sticking

When I go to stop my car (it's a T-5), my throttle sometimes wants to stick around 2200 rpm's. When it is put back into gear, it wants to accelerate the car up to those rpm's. It doesn't do it consistently and I can't find any patterns for when it happens.

I don't think that the cable is just getting stuck, but am not certain. What should I check?

First pull the intake tube off of the TB to verify the throttle blade is closing all the way. If it is, then check the IAC, it may be stuck.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I didn't have time today to check it out.

However, last night the throttle was stuck when I shut the car off. I started it up today and it was idling normal, so I assume this means that it is not mechanical and that the butterfly valve is closing all the way.

I will try to check the IAC sometime this week.

You can take off the IAC valve and clean it out with carburetor cleaner (let it soak for 10-15 minutes) and use a pick or something to manually move the internal valve to make sure it moves freely. IAC valves getting carboned up are quite common. If the throttle is sticking, manually moving it by hand at the linkage on the body you will be able to feel it stick, which you could also try cleaning out just for giggles (they're teflon coated so ford doesn't recommend cleaning because it ruins the coating....but if the coating worked they're wouldn't be any carbon on it :D)
