Gears Cost and Time for install
I just recently purchased a new 2002 GT and one of the first things I did was put 4.10's on it. I had a 5.0 before and gears were one of the best mods. My question is how long should it take for a shop to install the gears and how much should it cost? I'm not sure if i want to tell you how much it cost me or time it took....

I was quoted $350 at the local shop here if I supply the gears. They are about the only shop around here that does that kind of work other than the dealership, so I expect that this price is a little steep. I think I've heard people say that it should cost about $250 for the install.

Local Mustang shop here is $298 and they supply the FMS 3:73 gears and install kit. But speedo correction, synthetic gear lube, and disc break rears are extra. So they would do a set of 4:10's on a '02 for probably a little over $400.

If you made a scheduled appointment it should be done wthin a day. And could cost anywhere from 275-375 for the install. Maybe a lil less, maybe a lil more.
