timing chain on '92 GT

Hello, I'm new on the board. I'm in the process of changing the timing chain on my '92 5.0. The only question is. Do you have to drop the oil pan? I can't get the timing cover off. Any suggestions or tricks and advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thx in advance.

No, you don't have to drop the oil pan. There is two bolts on each side on the bottom of the oil pan. After you get those and all the other bolts out it will come off. I had to hit mine with a hammer pretty hard. Make sure to clean up ALL the old gasket off. Also when you put it back together, make sure you get the seal correctly seated in the groove on the bottom of the timing chain cover. A new gasket comes with the front end gasket set, but it's a 3 pc. and junk. just reuse the stock 1 pc. rubber one thats attached to the oil pan.
