Timming Question

My buddy just assembled a D.S.S. super bullet with new cam and performer rpm heads and intake...the problem is the car wont run unless it has at least 18 degrees of btdc and runs best on 24 but gets hot. Any Ideas? Opinions?

Are you sure the cam timing is right? How big is the cam? Not to sound stupid or anything, but I assume you checked the timing with the spout removed?

Yes the spout plug was out and cam was installed strait up..... and it is fairly large, dont know the exact specs....

Just making sure, but do you have the little dot on the cam gear facing down and the crank gear facing up?

It is possible that he has a cam that is too big for the computer, even mass air has it's limits.

yeah the dots lined up....you may have somthing on mass air or cam being too big

How big of a cam? Give me some duration numbers (total & @ 0.050"). Also, what's the idle speed you're trying for?

saltzstang 03-14-2003 07:33 AM

* Duration at .050 in.: 224 intake/232 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .555 in. intake/.565 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 112 degrees
