Default tire opinion - please read.

Ok I'm on a budget here, much like many of you probably are. It's time for new tires on my steed. I know tires isn't a place to skimp so I'm doing a lot of looking around. I was thinking about Yokohama AVS ES100's in size 245/45-16. Im looking for decent mileage, good street traction and decent wet traction. This tire seems to offer that at a fairly good price. Anyone out there running this tire? What can you tell me about it, or can you suggest something else. Thanks.

I was pleased with my Yokahama AVS Intermediates. The only thing I didnt like about them was they were real noisy. At the time I thought they were an excellent tire for the money.

what do you want your tires to do, because $100 bucks says you'll get a million posts advising you to buy slicks!

It seems you're interested in wet traction. I use Toyo Proxes T1-S tires. They are the absolute ultimate wet tire, period. They did however, cost me $825. That includes 4 wheel alignment, mounting and lifetime balance. And a normal tire has a tread wear of 400-700 these are rated 280! So far I've had them exactly one year and 18,000 miles and they're still in good condition with alot of tread. I have lit them up more than a few times and have driven through daily construction areas.

I had Nitto 550's(225/50r16) on the car before and these Toyo's have a faster turn-in. Nice and clean. I do however run 225/50ZR16 instead of the 55's the car calls for, just to get a little lower profile for handling and sidewall stiffness (these tires have sidewall implants for stability).

They also have torsional strength in the center to promote straight tracking. Let me tell you at 125+MPH this baby feels like it's on a rail it tracks so straight! I don't remember how good the car went staright before the Toyo's.

I'm gonna stop talking about my tires now

oh yeah, and they have rim protecting edge so you can take the Granny curb feelers off the Mustang and put them back on the Towncar!

Oh yeah, just remembered, they really helped the ride! I was surprised not to feel so much harshness.

my friend bought sumitomos he likes them so much he is on his second set and his is a daily driver and from what ive seen they are very affordable i have nankangs on my car they seem to handle well but i could not tell you anything about wet traction but they stick well when its dry and were less than 100 a piece for 17 inch so i would think 16s would be affordable from that manufacturer also

Why don't you look at Cooper Cobras, I have used both their top end (ZHP01) and there regular M&S tire and I have no complaints about both, They are (in my opinion) the best bang for the buck!

i have had 3 sets of sumitomo htrz2's on my stangs and i love them, i have 265 40 17's and they made a huge difference in ride quality and they suprisingly outlasted any other tires i have owned. they have awesome dry and wet weather traction also. i paid 145/tire, before balancing

Not trying to start a flame Blocker, just observing that Coopers as well as there cheapy name Futura (sold exclusively at Pep boys) are extremely attracted to metal road debris! I can't believe it myself that the only tires that have ever been punctured on any car I have ever owned have been made by Cooper! And it's happened 5-6 times to various vehicles! I don't think it's a coincidence. There's something about the compound.
