Tire size for cobra r's on a 90'
I just bought the rims and need some thoughts on tire size. The rims and tires on now are ponies with 245/50/16 on front, and they rub when I turn. Would 235/45/17 fit and would they rub too. The rubbing is'nt to bad now, as long as it don't get worse. Does the 245/45/17 fit? As far as the back goes, I have 255/50/16 and the clearence is tight on pass. side between tailpipe & gas tank. Would 275/40/17 or 295 fit, if I take the tailpipes & quadshocks off? I'd like the biggest poss. in back.

If your car isn't lowered, you probably shouldn't have problems with 245/45R17s. There's no way that you'll get 275s on the back without a lot of tweaking. They'd definitely rub on your exhaust or the fenders depending on your backspacing.

The car is not lowered. The o.d. of a 275/40/17 is 25.66, so fender clearence is not an issue, neither is the front(25.68 for 245/45/17). It is the inside fenderwell on the back & the control arms on the front(max. turning). The back spacing is all 5.95". 275 really is'nt that wide, I wish 315's, but I know that is'nt going to happen.

Which rims did you buy? You really need a different backspace on the rear. About a half inch more 6.5" or so. If you bought Ford Cobra R R58 rims they should only go on the front. The M179 rim is backspaced for the rear.
If you are using a 9.5" width rim the 235/45/17 will not be wide enough to cover the rim. If you did buy the Ford Cobra rims use the 94-95 Cobra tire size. 255/45/17 at all corners. The 275 will fit to a limit. You WILL need to roll the wheel well. Just because it fits on level ground doesn't mean it won't hit on a angled driveway approach. With your current backspace on the rear you will have trouble with a 255 tire. You should remove the Quad shocks. Exhaust can be adjusted a little if it is in the way, but it shouldn't be. I bought the 17 x 9 fake cobra r w/5.95 back spacing. I looked at afs websight and they had a fitment guide, 5.95 b.s. in front and 5.95 b.s. in rear(for drum conv.) 6.42 b.s.(for rear disc conv., because axles are longer for rear disc). The distance between rim & tire to inside wheelwell & quads is close with the more backspacing it would be closer. Whats this rolling of the wheelwell? Is that because the tire will stick out a little bit and it might hit when the rear is supressed? How would I get this done? Body shop? How much?
