Toluene Discussion
if anyone can post information on Toluene, (where to obtain it, approximate price, fuel/tol ratios, or personal experience) that would be great
thanks in advance |
Why should us 'Stang guys help out a Slow-Tie lover. Just kidding Mike! (Your car will still smoke mine!):D Does anyone know the ratios of toluene to fuel. This stuff is supposed to be pure octane and it is supposed to be able to create 110 octane fuel. I'm not to familiar with the stuff though. Anyone's help would be appreciated!!!

Its not available to the general public.
It is highly toxic and caustic to the skin. It does increase octane, but is harmful to all rubber products in you fule system. |

Toluene
R+M/2...114 Cost...$2.50/gal Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium 10%...94.2 Octane 20%...96.4 Octane 30%...98.6 Octane Notes: Common ingredient in Octane Boosters in a can. 12-16 ounces will only raise octane 2-3 *points*, I.e. from 92 to 92.3. Often costs $3-5 for 12-16 ounces, when it can be purchased for less than $3/gal at chemical supply houses or paint stores. Easily available, toxic and a little risky but some exotic car lovers swear by it. Never tried it myself. Probably won't. |
I have a large artcle on ths I cant remember the link though, Its saved on my computer somewhere. I will forward to to you.
I was thinking about using this with my Kenne Bell blower if I need it, but havent finished the car yet. If anyone else wants a copy let me know. |
Back when I was in college I worked for my uncle's company as a belt vulcanizer, basically I went into coal mines and repaired or "spliced" conveyor belts together. We use toluene, as well as tri-chlorethaline to clean the rubber and plies of the belt. It is some NASTY stuff that burns like heck if you get it on your hands. We have it in 55 gallon drums!!! I've never heard of using it in cars though... but now you have me thinking!!!
