Toploader 4spd conversion?
Has anybody here done a toploader conversion on their fox stang? I'm looking at putting one in my capri project. If anyone has tried it please let me know what parts you used and what you had to hack on/ modify to get it to work. Thanks a lot! -Mark

just curious why you would want a toploader
I would think a 5 speed would be better |
stronger better suited for abuse.
Lets see bell housing flexplate clutch depending on what you have right now. drive shaft will deped on whats in it. actually it all depends on what your set up is right noe. |
I put a top loader in an 84 i used to have I used an 11" clutch, SFi bell and the t-5 driveshaft was the right lentgh i used the 70 torino shifter which is mid mounted on the tail shaft and had to make a handle to put the knob where i wanted it. I have heard if you use the mustang shifter (rear mounted on the tailshaft) it fits perfect. the cheapest way to do the swap though is use the alluminum tremec or 79-83 4 speed bellhousing your stock clutch and T-5 driveshaft with the aforementioned early mustang shifter.

That answers a lot of my questions! A 351W w/ 425 horse minimum is going in. i'm guessing with that kind of power I should probably go the 11'' clutch & SFI bellhousing route correct? What about a flywheel? Also, I'll definitely go with the mustang shifter, but has anyone used a hurst competition plus on one? I drove an old mustang with a stock shifter recently and the throws must have been a foot long! Does anybodyhave any input on that, because I can't handle throws like that after getting used to a T-5....I mean I can handle a little longer throws, but that was rediculious. Thanks for your input so far! -Mark
