The torque boxes are the area in the rear of the car where the control arms bolt up. The boxes are what take the better part of the force when you floor it and make the control arms work for their money. After some time and a lot of burnouts the boxes can crack and seperate from the rest of the car. The new MM&FF has a pictorial installation of a set of Battle Boxes that I thought was pretty complete. Unless you're skilled in automotive welding, don't try this at home.
