Tps
can someone please help me on how to set the TPS? Throttle positioning sensor......any web links or info would be great help thanks
|
Put a small hole in the jacket on the black wire and the green (I think) wire. I just jabbed the probe into the wire, but you have to be careful when doing this because you don't want to break the wire. The guy at the speed shop used a sewing needle. Put the probe from your multi meter into the wires so that you have contact with the actual copper wires. Turn the key to the on position but do not crank. It should read around 0.98 to 1 vdc. If it is off, loosen the screws on top and move the plastic peice while watching the voltage. When it is where it is supposed to be, tighten the screws back down, making sure the voltage doesn't change while tightening.
Caymon PS - You can do a search here or go to corral.net. I think they have a tech article on this. I know this has been posted here before. If you run nito any problems let us know. I just checked and it is the green wire. |
thanks....is it two wires that go to the TPS that attach to the throttle body? one is red and the other is white.....i'm not sure which wire you are talking about.....
|
There shouldbe three wires, 1 black, 1 orange, and 1 green. They plug into the harness about 6" from the throttle body. It is on the top of the throttle body.

outstanding. do i take the sewing needle all the way through it? |
Just until the needle makes sufficient contact with the copper wires inside the jacket. By sufficient, I mean when you can get a reading and do not have to hold the needles.
Caymon So when are we gonna meet up at the track? |

oh, do you know where Someburger is in old baytown? |
Make sure the engine is completely warmed up before checking or adjusting the TPS. They have a habit of rising slightly when warm, so if you set it too close, when cold, you'll go over when it warms up, and you'll wonder why your car feel so funny once it warms up.
