Post track tested friends 347...

And being he just got it out of the shop, we were trying to work out some bugs, see what it was gonna do without nos, his old setup: 85 coupe, lowered, a wild camshaft 540 lift, 302 ported stock heads, 650 carb, victor jr. intk, msd, 4.10's welds, 26x10.5 e.t.s. 150 plate shot.

current setup: same induction and longtube headers, stock block stroked 347, steel crank, flycut froged pistons, same cam, stage 3 fully ported trick flow heads. first run he smoked the tires trough 1st and 2nd and went 13.0, we knew that would improve, second run it was bogging in higher rpms ?? we let it cool, and added some vp 104, and the guys sprayed some glue down lol, "vht" and he wasnt ready for it to hook like crazy so he bogged the motor, but went 12.5 at 111 mph, with a hot motor and no powershifting he ran again, last with his best 12.3 112, 1.7 60' brought the wheels up a bit.

a lot of good competion out there, he let me drive it but i just took it easy, boy i want one!

With nos he should be well into the low 11's, im beggining to like these carb setups, there was a twin turbo vette running 12's, also a ferrari 360 modello, i got a pic of it, but it was dark, he couldnt break out of the 13's, he babied it to 13.2, also a viper gts that got smoked by the tt vette, viper= 12.3 @ 119, dont remember the vette time, around 12.0-1, i would have loved to see my friend spray on all those fancy sports cars, of course he probaly would'nt of had to but never ran any of them, that ferrari was killer looking, and on the inside, phew! 150k $$

sorry about the long post, just wanted to share my friends setup, in case anyone on here is going carb, or has any question on how it would perform, or what to expect.

And additonally, this coupe still blows cold ac

Good runs, But I would expect to see more than 112mph out of a 347 w/ that combo. I would expect 118+. Maybe a bit more tuneing is in order?

good point, i guess i got carried away, but that was my original question, it is untuned, fuel and air mixture is untouched from old setup, he only ran it 3 times, maybe he needs a 750, instead of the 650 dbl pmpr, also i forgot to mention he has 10:1 compression now, and timing was at 10*, but with nos, he is gonna set it back to 8 when he sprays, cant wait to see it launch with nos, i would expect 125+mph traps, you think?

he was running 12.0 119 on old setup spraying, he did bypass powersteering, going to manual rack soon, with those skinnies its no problem anyways to steer it.

the cam is some sort of custom grind, the mechanic said it was probaly too radical for street, but my buddy insisted on keeping it, pistons had to be specially ordered because of trick flows valve clearance i guess, 600$ pistons! he doesnt drive it on the street anymore anyways, im gonna get some pics up, nothing special, but i got a pic of him lining up against an ls1, and burning out, boy those f-bods were going down left and right, all of the fast ones, blown and juiced, are broke according to some of the f-bod drivers that were there, but some of them are putting 600hp (blower) to the wheels, friends of ours are breaking the 6 spds, one guy punches the gas going bye haha, but wont race my buddy, he said hes waiting on his "stage 2 heads" lol whatever.

oh and sky, a 347 doesnt make a whole lot more hp anyways, more low end torque id suppose. tuned up we hoping for n/a 115 mph.

Granted a 347 doesn't make a huge difference alone. But it will give 50-60 HP over a 306. Not to mention you have Stage III TFS heads. A HUGE increase over ported stockers. Not to mention you went up a point in compression.

Im not trying to say your messing anything up. Im just saying, thers plentyore potential in this combo. Definatly a 650 must be running out on top though.

I say 117-118 fully tuned.

I think a decent running carbed, street 347 car should trap around 115.

Sheet, I've trapped 111-112 with my injected 302.

The guy said it will go 115 with a tuned up carb, and an aftermarket distributor, with some more intitial timing, ok i've got the stats on his cam, the mechanic that said it was too radical was an ididot, the guy that built the motor said it was "small tiny cam" with 528 lift 224 duration, and he is going to go with a matched trick flow cam, hehe i told him i want his old one.

I agree he might need a 750 now, the car is not showing sighns of leaning out though.

exgmguy, thats good traps on a injected 302
