Traction Nightmare
I hate this.. Just got time last night to drive my car actually for the first time with all the new mods..I have been to busy lately with school to drive it. The thing is a nightmare. I have all stock suspension. Stock turbines with 235/70/15 Hoosier GT's. All I do is sit and spin through 1 and 2nd gear. Even though I cant go anywhere it still sounds meaner than hell..Well my question is what is a CHEAP way to get some traction to the ground. |
Lower control arms methinks. What all do you have? Can you reall not go anywhere?
|
I can go but not very well...when i punch it to launch it just wont go! see sig for mods..

if you're looking to stay cheap, then try a set of the factory five control arms, get the uppers and lowers. also, next time you buy tires get something a lil wider, at least a 245. no fun spending all your money to make power and then not go anywhere is it? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif
------------------ 1990lx coupe, balanced 302, gt40p heads, wolv 1087 cam, 1.7rr's, 65mm tb, 75mm maf, comp box on top of cobra lower, anderson ford pms, full exhaust, drag type susp. and tubular front end, 3.55's. traps 105mph before some mods, look for 110mph very soon |
How much do those controller arms cost??

With those mods thats no surprise, and you sound upset over it..... Get some nice sticky tires and let it rip...if you think you're gonna come out of the hole at 5 grand on the street with your average street tire you better open your eyes.....you got a nice setup there ------------------ 1992 5.0 LX, V-1 S-Trim @8LBS,Edelbrock 6037 Heads,Cobra Intake,E-303,1.6 Roller Rockers,65MM Holley TB, 75 MM Pro M Mass Air, 190 LPH FP,24 lb injectors,MSD 6A and BTM,BBK equal length shorties, offroad h-pipe,Mac Flowpath Mufflers,Pro 5.0, 3.73's,Motorsport "C" springs, welded subframe connectors,Ponies w/ 225/50 Nitto NT 450's on front,255/50 BFG Drags out back,93 Cobra Spoiler Daily driver: 89 Coupe with 208K plus, BBK shorties, offroad h-pipe,2-chamber flowmasters with dumps, |
im pretty sure you can get the pair for about $250, thats without tax and shipping though. obviously these arent the highest quality arms out there, but the price to performance ratio is pretty nice, and you said you need inexpensive solutions. check MM&FF for their advertisements. hope this helps you, nick

I was looking for something half that price..anyone running traction bars? would those work???

If you're talking about the slapper bar type traction bars, I would not recommend them on a street car. I had the Lakewoods on my 87LX (100shot) and they definitely helped traction, but they used to hit the ground alot going over big bumps or uneven surfaces. This eventually resulted in the brake limiter hangers being smashed up against the unibody and not allowing the bars to move like they should.
The lift bars that they make that replace your stock control arms are better for the street, but I still was not that impressed with them on my friend's Cobra. ------------------ 2000GT Atlantic Blue: Cobra R Wheels-17x9 255/40/17, 17x10.5 315/35/17, tubular K-member & control arms, Tokico 5-ways, coil overs, sway bars, strut/shock tower bars, 70mm FMS throttle body, Saleen nose. 79 Pace Car: Maximum Motorsports suspension - H&R Race springs, Bilsteins, rear control arms, chassis bracing, Draglites, 302 w/ Edelbrock Performer intake, cam and 600cfm carb, BBK equal-lengths & H-pipe, 2.5" Flowmaster 2chmbr exhaust, Al Driveshaft, 8.8 trak-loc, TCI C4 w/ 2000 stall, B&M |
Get some tires, nothing else is gonna help, I've been in your situation.

Does anyone know if i could fit 255's in the back and 245's in the front and it still look ok??

hate to break it to you, but all those mods are useless if you cant get it to the floor. First, those rims should be able to hold a 235 or 245/ 60, next, do you have posi?. Dont skimp on suspension. Save some money. SSM's arent cheap, but they're among the best.. I just finished my suspension. SSM lowers and uppers, welded torque boxes, lakewood 50/50 shocks, 70/30 struts and some heavy duty sway bars front and rear and Eidbach launch kit( springs) Also, what gear ratio are you running?

first thing with traction troubles is to make sure u have a good tire on the car before anything else and thet should help somewhat, but qith the torque that 347 is making i would be willing to bet you will need some good suspecions pieces to help also.
B.T.W 2 thing i saw in your mods got my attention. 1. why are you running a cobra computer?? 2. are you running stock 302 intake that has been extrude honed and gt-40 head that are ported and polished?? ------------------ 93-LX: 5 Speed, Flow's with H-Pipe, 3.73's Sub's and K&N. |
SUBFRAME CONECTORS they do help and if dont have posi get get some and get some good griping tires man if you need to go cheap get some futruas from pep boys they grip like no other and they are cheap
|
A good combo on tires would be 225/55s up front and 245 or 255/50s out back. If you can afford it, get some Mickey Thompson ET Streets and you will be able to launch at 4000 easy.
