Which tranny should I go with?
I'm in the process of planning a motor/tranny/suspension swap for my car and I can't decide on a tranny. It needs to be able to handle about 700hp or so. The ONLY other stipulation is that it needs to be 100% automatic. Manual/auto might be acceptable just so long as I can put it in D and drive it normally. Do I wanna go with a Lentech AOD or a PA C4? The motor will be a 389ci stroker with DFI and a small nitrous shot on it. It will also be a 99.99999% street car. The tranny will be backed up by a 9" or an 8.8" with 9" ends and a T/A and PHB. I could live without the AODs OD gear but the C4 would have to be fully auto. Anybody? Oh yeah...I'm planning on either 3.55 or 3.27 gears. I'd like to be able to leave stoplights without melting tires.

Dynamics C-4 is a tough piece. As for leaving it in drive, I believe that depends on the valve body. Is a 700hp engine going to have enough vacuum to operate properly? Most of the Renegade stangs run Dynamic C-4s.
I probably wouldn't use the AOD. ------------------ 92 GT, 4:10 gears, centerforce clutch, 6# powerdyne blower, bbk h-pipe, flowmasters |
i would go with the c-4 however id be pretty impressed to see a 100% street car with a naturally aspirated motor making 700 hp and shifts totally automatic. plus, the gears wount help you. with 700 hp you would bake the tires off the light with 2.73's. i think yo need to reevaluate your idea. you cant have a race car and a street car, especially a n/a one.

700hp is a MAX estimate. I just want to be on the safe side. I expect the motor (in EFI trim) to make about 450hp or so and then maybe another 100hp shot of N2O. 450hp isn't too much for a street car...and the car won't be totally N/A anyhow. The reason I say 700hp is just to add a margin of safety. But the max I expect to be putting down is about 550hp.

AOD. Period. Call Performance Automatic, Lentech or Level 10.
