Default AOD/T5 Crossmember differences?

I have a 90 LX with the stock AOD...Do I need a new crossmember if I want to convert to a T5? I have 94 rebuilt tranny ready to go.

Also, how much should I plan to spend on the rest of the parts?

I know I want the centerforce clutch ($300?).

Thanks,
DoranW

i dont think you need a new cross member you just need a new mounting plate the conects between the tranny and the cross member and the h-pipe also hangs off of it. Not 100% sure but pretty sure. hope i helped

T5's crossmembers are more centered (the ends) like this:

Automatic crossmembers are more setback like this:

So I am assuming that they are not interchangeable. Would I be correct in doing so?

Thanks,

You could do a install-and-see...
THere might be some adjustability fore/aft to get it to fit. THese two photos were stock and for my TKO.

You can _make_ them fit by cutting/re-welding the mounts at the end. Not that hard to do.

Most people that I've talked to about it have been able to re-use the AOD one, including myself (yes, i talk to myself)

Pedals will set you back no more than $50
You'll want a new cable and quadrant ~ $90
bellhousing and tranny, depends on if they are used or not. Anywhere from $250 to $1400

pilot bearing, clutch kit, flywheel, block plate, backup light wiring harness, 2 shorter bellhousing bolts (other 4 can be reused), flywheel bolts,
that should cover most of it. But do a search on this topic, it comes up atleast once a week and theres plenty of info out on it.

hope this helps, good luck, its WELL worth it,

-Drew

Make it fit by cutting the spot welds, sliding the crossmember foreward (the aod application it is all the way back) and rewelding it. Not a big deal. Or if you dont want the hassle, just buy a 5-speed crossmember. They are not expensive.

Do these numbers look right for prices?
------------------------------------------------------
pedals: $ 50
new cable/quadrant: $ 90
bellhousing?: $ 270
pilot bearing: $ 20
clutch kit: $ 315
flywheel: $ 100
block plate: $ 50 ?
backup light wiring harness: $ ??
2 shorter bellhousing bolts
(other 4 can be reused): $ 5 ?
flywheel bolts: $ 10 ?
already have tranny: $0

converting from AOD to T5: Priceless
real estimation: $ 910 + ??

--------------------------------------------------------

I figure these are all at the higher end...should (hopefully) be able to knock some of these down a little bit.

Any of these significantly off one way or the other?
Just looking for like stock quality or slightly better.

Thanks,
DoranW

I thinkyou can reuse your flywheel bolts, so you can take that off the list.

Reuse flywheel bolts.

Get a USED bellhousing, unless you are getting some Lakewood scattershield...

Post WANTED ads all over. These are stock take-off pieces! I sold almost everything you needed (at one time or another) for cheap when I upgraded to a TKO...
