I've seen posts with people running 11's on slicks with the stock T-5 for extended lengths of time.
Does that mean it's a good high torque/hp application tranny? I don't think I'd recommend it for that kind of application. Bottom line is the T-5 is stronger than what it gets credit for, the 3550 isn't as good as what it gets credit for (plus I have NEVER EVER seen a case where Tremec backed their 3550 product up when it broke without being dragged kicking and screaming), so why not go with a tranny that you've never heard anything bad about? |
I dont think the T-5's are that strong. Pushing 11's with one is luck waiting to fail on you. My T5 literaly blew into hundreds of pieces. I was picking 2 inch chunks of cluster gear out of my pan. This was when my engine was completely stock as well, so I wasnt realy pushing the limits. I know people who have replaced two T5's under thier warranty. I dont know much about Tremecs waranty because I have been lucky enough not to need it yet.
