Trick Flow "Street" Intake
i was thinking of purchasing a new intake, is the trick flow "street" intake a good choice on a stock 88 gt (t-5) ?
Will it increase performance on my stock motor? i havent done anything to it except put a new 3-core rad in it, no smog pump, & dumps at the end of stock H-pipe (sounds mean!). if so how much power (approx.) thanks |

Just changing the intake won't really do a thing. What you should do is save up some more money, and change the heads/headers/intake at the same time. This way the whole system will work together, and you only have to take apart the engine once.
How many miles do you have on the engine now? ------------------ AHD 91GT(undergoing-overhaul) |

spend your money on a mass-air conversion kit first.
I think you would gain maybe 10 ponies max with just the intake swap. Dont forget to remove the restrictive factory air cleaner, air silencer, and air box, or else you wont get any more air into the intake in the first place. You should also get a 65mm Throttle body if you do this intake swap. ------------------ 1993 GT/AOD '93 Mustang GT |

I don't know the conversion for your mileage off hand, but I would do a compression check first. Just to see what shape the rings are in. Then go from there. And yes if you are speed density, and plan on a few mods like heads/cam, I would recommend you convert to mass air.
But first do a compression test, and post the results ------------------ AHD 91GT(undergoing-overhaul) |

Well, I spent most of early this morning researching this very topic. I'm trying to decide which intake to go with, as well.
I must say this first: if all you're planning on doing is changing the intakes, you won't see squat for a power increase. Maybe 5hp if the Ford gods are generous. On the TrickFlow street, they're designed to reinforce your low end torque more than others (read: long runners, good airflow distribution). I've heard a lot of complaints about them up top, though. If you stick with the stock cam, you'll never know the true 'top end' anyway. Depending on what mods you make in the future should influence your choice. The GT-40 and Cobra flow nearly identical numbers (gee, they use the same lower, wonder why?), but at least you can extrude hone and/or port the Cobra later. Plus the Cobra will stand a nitrous backfire a little better. I'm going with the Cobra or mebbe the Edelbrock, but it's up to you. Spend your $$$ is better places, that's my recommendation. Gears & Mass Air conversion: you can't go wrong. Good luck. ------------------ Capri306, Moderator, The Mustang Works Online 1979 Mercury Capri, 5.0L -- C4 -- 2.73 1987 Mustang LX Notch <--- New Timeslips |
