trying the get intro the low 12's. need advice.

i am trying to get into the low 12's. like 12.3 or 12.5. naturally aspirated. i need advice on what kind of setup i need. Heads, Cam, Rockers, Intake. i all ready have a new 306 engine. thank you very much.

I have done this without the motor stuff, I have run a best of 12.81 @ 103.53. Thats with bone stock heads, cam, and intake. You really need to concentrate on suspension and proper slicks to achieve 12's.

A basic GT-40 package with Mickey Thompson 26X8.5 slicks, with 3.73's ,will put you in the 12's, easy.

Heads, I would go with Trick flows, Edelbrocks, or AFR 165's. Any aftermarket cam will do the job as well. Keep it around .050 lift and 220 degrees of duration for good driving manners. For the intake I would say first the Holley Systemax, then the Performer RPM, TFS Track heat, etc...

Any combination of these should get you 300 hp to the rear wheels and if you have decent traction, mid-low 12's.

The Systemax II kit is supposed to be good for mid 12's. I've noticed better hp numbers from the AFR heads than anything else so far, I have the Edelbrocks and like those. RPM intake and TFS Stage 1 would probably get you well on your way and with a few suspension mods you'd be right there. I went with the Edelbrock heads, prted Cobra intake and TFS Stage 1 cam and I'm just under 300rwhp, haven't run it yet but i should get into the 12's with my stock suspension and Factory 5 control arms. Just about any Head, Cam, Intake combo should get you close, the rest is tweaking. Good luck.

I agree with gtsr515 that the suspension is key here. My twin's '85 GT goes 12.50's @ 109MPH consistently with a 306, on drag radials. His setup is a little different though as he's running dual edelbrock 500 cfm carbs instead of fuel injection and '69 351 heads that he ported and polished instead of the expensive aluminum aftermarket pieces. Dynoed HP to the rear wheels was 290. A centerforce dual friction clutch, T-5, aluminum driveshaft, 8.8 with 4.30 gears, southside machine lift bars, rear air bags, and drag struts and shocks round out his combination. Just remember, Horsepower isn't everything! I've seen plenty of cars that have more HP than his and he still spanks them! Good luck!
