Tuning issues after new combo installation
Well, I bolted on the AFR 165's, GT-40 Intake, Ultradyne cam w/1.7's, 65MM TB, 24# injectors, etc. Now I have a few tuning issues to resolve. I obtained an acceptable idle (for now) by re-setting the computer and disconnecting the IAB and adjusting the throttle plate screw and then re-connected the IAB. It idles O.K., but it hangs a little bit between shifts and when I stop it takes a few moments to settle down to around 800 RPM. I'm getting an occasional check engine light so I ran the code scanner and got code 159 (MAF sensor voltage out of range). It feels like the car's a bit lean between 2000 and 2500 RPM. Before I try a custom burned chip I'd like to try out the Extender which I already have, but didn't install it yet. Also, I'm wondering if one of those "air adjuster" units will help me tune it a little. I have a 73MM C&L MAF sensor on the car now and I've tried different jumper wires, but it seems to run the same either way and throws a code sometimes. The cam I chose isn't too big, its got 216* duration @.05 and .507 lift with the 1.7's. The L.S.A. is 114* which I requested since the car is a '94 GT with the sensitive computer. Is a chip the only real cure on a modded car?
