Two problems one cause?
I have a 92 GT and I recently noticed coolant leaking from the back of the engine and a descent amount of water spitting from the same side tail pipe. Are these two things connected or just a coincidence they showed up at the same time?

Re: Two problems one cause?
I doubt they are related. Are you running cats? Sometimes cars with cats spit water. The coolant leaking from the back of the engine could be an intake gasket, or worse, so check that out soon.

No, I am not running cats or a smog pump. And the car has never over heated.

Re: Two problems one cause?
A/F dripping from the back could be intake gasket, head gasket, or a freeze plug on the back of the block, or a cracked block (that's what mine was). Normally a good running engine with a tight exhaust system will spit water. It's just the exhaust gases condensing inside the warm pipes. Actually alot of newer cars actually have drain holes on the mufflers just for that reason.
Now if it's spitting ANTIFREEZE out the exhaust pipe, then I'd start looking for a head gasket leak, cracked block. |
Re: Two problems one cause?
I'd fix it right away, if it does happen to be an intake gasket, chances are there'll be water in the crankcase as well. This will wash out your bearings in short order. Hopefully it is just a lower head bolt that isn't sealed properly. That could also explain the water coming from the same side tailpipe (water getting into the cylinder).

Re: Two problems one cause?
Hey, I found the leak, it was a small 3/8 hose running from the aft side of the intake manifold to the back of the engine. Where it connected to the back was hidden by the two heater core hoses that come from the firewall. Thats why I couldn't see where the coolant was coming from with the engine running. In fact I didn't even find the hole until I just started ripping hoses out and checking them one by one. I just wanted to let you guys know. Thanks for everyones help.

Re: Two problems one cause?
that's why I bypassed the heater core- to avoid situations like that!
LOL- J/K... I was just too lazy to change the heater core... |
