Underdrive pulley question?

I want to get a set of unserdrive pulleys for my stang but I havea concern. I have a very powerful stereo system so I was thinking I just wouldnt use the alternator pulley. Is this worth it? Also, and I guess more importantly what do I do about the belt? Do I have to get a different size belt or what, and if so how do I find out what to get?

Mach 1 11-13-2002 02:11 AM

march makes a set that has a smaller alternator pulley to bring the alternator to within 2% of factory charging . They call them the "power and amp series"

Do you have a 5 liter? If so, Ill sell you my set of these exact same pulleys.

e-mail me

Mach 1:
What are you asking for the pully set?

Thanks,
Justin

Don't

Underdrive pulley's are like that mythical B/S that you read on
a early Sat. morning info commercial. Shure they work ! but not that
good . and for your application ,I'd say no -don't do it .More headaces
than you need . save your money and put a set of gears in it , or better
yet ,tell santa you want a S/C ;)

I couldnt disagree more. Underdrive pulleys work very well and are no trouble at all. One of the easiest, least expensive and good gains for your money mods that you can make.

Your goona see AT LEAST 5 hp, and they have been dynoed many times to give around a 10 hp gain.

You and your clueless comments and references to B-1s which has nothing to do with the subject of discussion.

I live in the real world, I have had underdrive pulleys on several cars, and I have felt the difference.

And its been documented by many very reputable sources.

Maybe you should start reading something..anything..to improve your general knowledge, about anything...

Sorry

To many Browsers up at once , my fault ! .Was a USAf Comment :D
But my feelings stand ! UnderDrive Pulley's are are 50.90.110 $ of Problems ;)

And one more

Dude you insulted me , I have alot more years on this Earth than you ! * years in the USAF ( TAC ) 20 Years with Boeing . 7 Mustangs . 4 Children . I will deal with you later  tO laate tonight

I have the March *power and amp* pulleys on my car and I think they are great. I felt a slight power increase, and was granted with better gas mileage. They have been on my car for over 3 months now and I have so far had no problems with them.

Whats your point? You have 4 children and 7 cars....does this automatically mean you know something? NO, and you make it obvious that you dont.

your opinion is fine, but you insulted me and came off with a arrogant attitude(which your still doing), and that not.

I don't know why moc seems to hate pulleys, but I like them. 9 out of 10 people will tell you that pulleys are a good bang for the buck. :D

mach 1, I'm not trying to get into this flame war but I do have an honest question regarding underdrive pulleys.
Can you really feel 5-10hp?
I think that's the point moc is trying to make, which brings up an interesting question: How much power does it take to to "feel" the difference?
I would say it depends on the driver and how well they know their car.
For instance, I could add gears, exhaust, TB, pulleys, intake and heads to my stock '88GT and my g/f would never know the difference except for it would be a little bit louder.
Nother against her but she's just not into car/engines and wouldn't notice anything. She thinks it's too fast now.
Again, I'm not trying to flame you but just putting in a different perspective.
Some people are more/less sensitive to changes in their cars.

Mach 1 11-18-2002 07:23 PM

I think you can start to "feel" in the seat of the pants gains that are around 10 hp. Sure, no problem. 5 probably not so noticeable, but I think 10 is easy to feel. Again, like you said, the driver would have to feel it. i dont think a passenger could notice the difference.

Me and MOC disagree, and thats ok. His arrogant reply is what started the problem.

Get 130A alt if you are gonna get pulleys

It is my opinion, and my own personal experience, that the stock alt is very weak to start with, add UD pulleys, and a big stereo and you will have a dead battery every few days.

Get the 130A alt, and then get the UD pulleys and you will still have plenty of power for the big stereo.

PULLEYS

Hey the guy had a concern about pulleys not charging enough or causing problems I don't wanna get into the whole taking sides thing but I'm sure you'll find way more people on this sight that like underdrive pulleys than not! I have had three different mustangs all with underdrive pulleys, my Cobra has March power and amp pulleys and a $3,000 stereo plenty of amps and subs never had any problems maybe at idle with lights on, rear defrost going, wipers and stereo cranked. I think the pulleys are worth the investment, and easy to install. Even if it is only 5-10hp there are a lot of guys here that scrap the sound deadening insulation and glue out, or cut out extra wires in the wireing harness to get 3-5pounds of weight out. Maybe there are some bad pulleys out there but the March pulleys work great.

tHATS WHY YOU GET THE MARCH "POwER AND AMP" SERIES, WHICH ALEVIATE POTENTIAL charging problems.

Lol, my girlfriend would'nt notice either, sorry, just thought that was funny, i installed some 1.7 rockers, id say they gave 10 hp i could feel, 5 hp i doubt i could feel, g'f didnt know the difference, i have the asp crank pulley, steeda waterpump, and stock alt pulley, i saw no gain, maybe on the mph in the 1/4 but only half a mph at best, still good for peace of mind, i found that my ugly huge stock one was missing a bolt, i was able to correct that with a whole new pulley:D

Dark_5.0 11-19-2002 10:52 PM

I knocked off a tenth in the 1/4 with mine. I didnt use the alternater pulley.

I really couldnt feel it all that much but the clock doesnt lie.;)
