Thumbs up

Basically they'll all be the same, really just the finish is different. I have Auto Specialties, and I believe March makes some nice polished aluminum ones...

Default Mac pulleys

I had these on my 89 gt and they completely ruined my alternator and battery. I put a new one of each on and they ruined my second alternator. Of course, this time I caught it before I ran the battery down. Warranties are nice for this too. I didn't have to buy that third alternator, just traded. After that, I took the pulleys off and sold them as quick as I could. I could not be paid to buy another MAC product. The pullies didn't make any noticeable power on the street anyway. I hope this helps you on your decision.

That's true.... I got rid of the alternator pulley after the second battery and third alternator, finally upgraded to the 130 amp one but didn't put the pulley on... all was well after that...

My suggestion is not on an everyday street driven car. In my opinion, they really do not make that much noticeable difference in power except for in the upper rpm range. Just my .02 worth.

Default pulleys?

why is it that everyone gets pulleys if they cause the alternater to go? I don't want to cause damage to my car, but I have heard that they are an advantage to have. Do you suggest that I not get them?

I still have the pullies on mine, just not the alternator one.
They also sell a pulley set that is big stereo friendly!

I know a lot of people in my area who get them just to say that they have 'em. Also to say that they modified their stang. Every one of them has had to buy a new alternator. On a bone stock car, they do not make that much difference. Whey they make power is when you are turning higher rpms and have 15 other mods to go along with it. If you are hell bent on getting a set of pulleys get the stereo friendly set like JL1314 mentioned. I know $80 sounds like a cheap mod, but it will cost you in the long run. That is on a daily street driven car.

Some please remind me......there is the alternator pulley, crnk pulley and water pump (??) pulley??? So what I read is that it's recommended to get just the WP and crank pulley? What if u use the alt. pulley with a 130amp alt.?

With the 130amp alternator you should definitely be able to run the alt. pulley. I have a set of March underdrives on my car and have had no problems at all. My lights get a little dim at night with the A/C on, but I never have any starting problems the next day. Eventually, I will change out my alternator, but I am in no hurry.

Yeah I run the ASP crank and water pump pulleys, haven't had any problems. I'd say they're worth a .1 or two and 1-2 MPH so yeah I think they're worth it. Just my $.02.

Yeah, for drag racing, you might get a tenth or two at WOT, but for the street, they are a waste. As everyone agrees, your battery will not charge at idle (which eventually trashes your battery) and the lights will dim, etc. Also, the water pump now turns slower - for a car in traffic, this means it will run hotter. You won't notice any real improvement in every day driving!

Hey- not knowing crap about pullies and their effect on alternators, thinking back, my car already had pullies on it when I bought it. However, it also had a new alternator.

My lights are dim until the RPM's get above 1250, and are relatively sensitive to the throttle. Is this because of the pullies?

I've already replaced the battery, thinking it was weak but it wasn't bad, anyway.

The alternator ALSO turns slower which means it won't charge the battery until the RPM's increase, usually above 1200-1500.

I've got the March pulley set......and I can't stand the dimming lights at idle and not beig able to start te car after 3 days of non-use. I'm thinking about throwing the stoc pulleys back in, but I was told that getting an Optima battery would help w/ the starting problem. Input?

I have an Optima battery and it's great, but even the best batteries will lose charge if the alternator isn't putting out!! (heh heh)

I have the march pulleys and notice the dim lights and low charge at idle, but I have never had a problem starting the car or had to replace a battery or alternator because of the pulleys.
