Underhood mat

Can the underhood mat -- which I assume is for noise control -- be removed without any negative effects?

1BAD89 01-29-2002 05:24 PM

Yes it can, it's just a dust collector anyway.

Alright, but if the paint on my hood bubbles, it's your ***. :D

Underhood insulation mat

Jeb:

Sure, it can be removed but it isn't pretty underneath and you'll get more engine noise coming through. Not much chance of paint problems with it removed. Your call here.

It's an American V8. It's supposed to be noisy. :D

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Pulled mine out last year. Haven't had any paint problems, but it is fugly under there. I used a razor to cut out the exposed goo between the hood panels and repainted those spots, looks great now.

nothing but a dust mop

took mine off 3 days after i bought my notch, that was 11 yrs ago
and the motor and hood still look like bran new ;)

Jeb_Bush_2000 01-29-2002 11:28 PM

I yanked it right after dinner.

IMHO, I think it looks a lot better. I bought a notch because they're the lightest and stiffest 'Stangs. I like the taut, purposeful look of the car. The exposed hood crossmembers just make it look like the weight is pared down to the absolute minimum.

Plus, how often do I have the hood open? ;)
