upper control arms

I'm putting in new control arms, upper and lower. I got the uppers off, and I'm wondering about the bushings that are on the differential housing. I would like to replace them, but I'm wondering how to get them out. Any help?

Most people just "massage" them out with a hammer of some sort. Rubber mallets seem to be the way to go.

I just read a thing that says to drill the inner rubber part full of holes and then just take it out, but not the steel sleeve, is that right? My new energy suspension bushings look like they replace that steel sleeve with more polyurethane.....coule that be right?

Here are some pictures of the old and new bushings , for reference:

I'm confused as to whether I want to remove that steel sleve, cause the new bushing has a lip around it:

Anyone have any ideas?

So when changing the upper arms, you have to replace the bushings too? I'm going to be having this done soon, so do I have to buy new bushings for that? Also, what about welding the mounts, will that help at all?

I don't know about welding the mounts, if your talking about welding the torque boxes, thats a good thing to do, but a whole different area and a lot more work (I think, article in latest MM&FF). On the bushings, you don't have to, but people say it makes the car a lot more responsive, accenting the improvement of the control arms. Just from removing the uppers I can totally believe that, cause that thing flexed like a mofo.
