Out of curiosity I decided to measure vacuum at idle. I registered a steady 26 in Hg. Is this normal? Can you have too much vacuum? Is it safe to say that I still have the stock cam? I'm like the fifth (possibly higher) owner of the car and it wasn't stock when I bought it. It does seem to pull hard to around 5000 - 5500 rpm. I've had it past 6000 rpm on the factory tach before I got my autometer w/ shift light. What does everyone think?

Hi,
That's strange; I was told stock Vacuum readings are 18". My Vacuum/Boost gauge shows between 14"-16" on average, so I know I definately have a cam or rockers (as someone mentioned).

I too am unaware of the engine mods made. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

That's pretty high. Usually, the higher the readings, the 'tighter' the motor. Given your description of # of owners, that issue may be in question.
I rebuilt my 5.0 recently, & w/12K miles, I register ~20".

With that much vacuum, it is pretty safe to say you have the stock cam.

You have more vacuum at idle than when my car decelerates. Mine idles at 17" of vacuum, before and after the supercharger.Your car seems pretty fast though. If it runs good , who cares?

Thanks for the replies, I was just wondering if it was something to be concerned with. I don't know if this would make a difference, but I think I have a blown head gasket. My coolant has been disappearing so I have to frequently add water (about a glass per month). The problem gets worse in the winter. Anyways, I've checked my compression before and the numbers are all between 150 - 160, so I don't think it's blown between the cylinders. I don't have any white smoke in the exhaust or water in the oil. I've pretty much replaced everything related to the cooling system (radiator, water pump, heater core). This is the reason I want to get new heads soon. I'm hoping that will fix my coolant problem.
