Valve Help Please

Hi
I'm changing my Valve springs on my stock heads, I'm using the Crane direct match keepers and springs set. Do I replace the Exhaust rotaters with the keepers in the set. Also I'm haveing touble getting the keepers on the Intake valves to release. How might I go about getting them off. Thanks

I think I understand what you are asking, but you mean to say retainers instead of keepers.

Yes you need to use the retainers and keepers that came with the springs. Dont try to mix and match unless you have verified:

1) that the springs are the same diameter
2) the height of the retainers are the same
3) the angle the keepers are cut at are the same
4) the notch on the keepers are at the same height

If you mean that they are stuck to the the valve stems, just give a little tap with a soft hammer it's just varnish keeping them there...

hope this is what you mean...Big Bopper

Ok I can not figure out how to get my valve springs off my intake valves.
I'm assuming that the little round cup like thing is holding the keepers and I need it to slide down (toward the Head) to get the keepers out and release the valve spring.
Please help me on this one before I go crazy. I've been bangin on the round thing surrounding the keepers and It will not slide down.

Usually just hitting them with a hammer breaks loose the varnish or crusted oil or whatever is holding them. Hit them with a hammer then try your spring compressor again.

Are you doing this with the heads on or off the engine. Is the engine in or out of the car? The more you can tell us, the more we can help. There are lots of people here who will have all kinds of tricks you can try.

The heads are on the motor. I am tring to change them without removing the heads.
So I am doing the right thing by hitting down on the round thing that is holding the keepers.
I have tried hittin it with a hammer with the spring compressed and with it not compressed. NO LUCK
This has me baffeled why they will not just break loose and slide down the valve shaft releasing my keepers
any ideas?
Thanks
