![]() Well, about a week ago I went to start my car and it started shaking viloently all of a sudden. At first I thought that it might have been something like plug wires or distributor but all that stuff seemed to be okay. Plus there there wasn't a loss of performance, just a really bad skahing.. Then I thought it might have been something out of balance so I took everything apart to get to the flywheel and clutch disc and they were fine. I know it's not the drive shaft because it vibrates when it's sitting at idle. I'm really stumped as to what it is. It vibrates the worst between idle and 2500 RPM's and smoothes out a little at higher RPM's. I know that it has to be somewhere between the tranny and engine because you can really feel it in the stick compared to the steering wheel. Also, when I tore the tranny flywheel and clutch out and put them back together, the car won't engage. I don't think that there is any power going to the starter. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know because I am stumped.

![]() Define: "won't engage"
Have you checked your motor mounts?

![]() I mean that nothing happens when I start the car. I turn the key and there isn't even a click. I'm guessing that there just isn't any power going to the starter or maybe it's got a bad connection. The battery is fine so that isn't the problem.

![]() Well when you get the starter figured out, look down on the harmonic balancer and make sure it's not wobbling, or check closesly to see if it's bad, shut engine off of course.

![]() I am thinking you nailed it on the head.
"Bob" (freind of the boy's) came dragging up last week in his 97 GT and it was vibrating to beat Hell. While I was staring at the engine in disbelief that it would visibly shake like that, I noticed a funny looking wobbly thing behind the crank pulley. THe outer ring had gone astray. 48 bucks and some pullage and it's as good as new.

![]() I got the starter working finally. After putting the tranny, flywheel, and clutch back in, it seems to be running just fine. However, I noticed a loss in performance. I don't think that I got the right exhaust bolted up good on the header because I hear some sound coming out of there. Do you think that's what would be causing the loss in performance?

![]() ok, the performance is up to normal again but that nasty vibration is still there. Someone mentioned to check and see if the harmonic balancer or crank pulley is wobbling. How much wobbling would be out of ordinary?

![]() im having vibration over 70 mph, but i think its the rear tires, anyway, your crank pulley should be turning almost perfect, visibly you can tell if the hb is bad, also you should check motor mounts/tranny mounts especially if it happens all the time with the engine running in neutral.

![]() It's definately the harmonic balancer. How hard is it to replace it and what tools will I need to fix it. I also read that I would want to replace the oil seal while I'm at it.
Thanks a bunch, Jason |

![]() you cant rent the puller from autozone, looks like a steering wheel puller, pull the crank pulley, loosen the crank snout bolt, dont forget there is a washer in there too, and go to work....let us know.

![]() oh yea, after removing the bolt and washer, you can put the bolt back in(minus the washer) so the puller does'nt damge the crank snout, it's easy job, i did mine in like an hour, had to pull my electric fan too, im thinking i want a better one like fluidamper or something, i just have an oem replacement for now.
