Question Losing Power steering fluid.....

Ok, it seems that I am losing power steering fluid from somewhere. It doesn't look like there is any noticeable leaks, but I am filling it up about every 2-3 months or so. Should I be going through it like this, or is there a leak? If there is a leak, do they make a fluid with like a stop-leak in it by chance? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Chris

Most of the time it is the 'noisy' FORD abortion of power steering pump Check the high-pressure side - it has a O-ring on it that could cause a leak - check where the return and hi-pressure go into the rack - those are some common starting points...

Good luck!

From pump to rack there is a hose that goes through a bracket connected to the body. The hose has a metal piece on it to prevent chaffing I guess. When I bought my car it was leaking from there because the metal piece even now does not stay in the bracket and the hose chaffs. It's worth a look. The hose is cheap and easy to replace. Take a look inside the boot that covers the inner tie rods also. I have heard that if there is fluid in there the rack is on its way out.

The power steering fluid is probably coming from the power steeting pump j/k I have the same problem but I fill every 4th week or so.

Ok thanx for the replys guys. I will get up under the car tomorrow since she's getting a bath and see if I can find these hoses you are talking about. I will keep you guys updated so that those of you who are having the same problems might be able to fix yours too.
