Default Water Pump Help !!!!!

OK....now who knows about 5.0 water pumps.

I'm putting a 5.0 stroked to 347 in my car, 1968 Cougar. I'm trying to run a serpentine belt from a later model 5.0. I have the brkts.
Left brkt. has the P/S pump and the A/C compressor on it and the right brkt. has the alternator on it. But.....the water pump is something else.

Some years the pump runs backward, because the pump runs off the back of the belt and other times it runs forward, same as the crank. Who can help. I don't need to be burning this engine up with improper cooling cause the pump is running the wrong way.

Thanks,

Here's my 2c worth:

My suggestion is to replace the OEM waterpump with a high-flow water pump. This way more water will be pumped through the stroked block, and you know exactly if this is a counter-clockwise turning water pump or not.

I'm assuming you can do the research on what year block that is, and determine which way the water pump spins as well.

We've got a 331 stroker in our stang, with a high-flow water pump, Fluidyne radiator, and Flex-a-lite fan. No problem with cooling at all.

Since you're installing a serpentine belt setup...you need to use a reverse rotation water pump...if not, how are you going to route the belt?..JIC, check these shorty belt routing diagrams, you're not installing a smog pump, right?....Hope this helps.

Joel is right; you want a reverse rotation water pump. If I'm not mistaken, all 87-93 stangs use the reverse rotation pump. I know 1989 does. So just go to the parts store and get water pump for a 1989 mustang.

Well found out today that Ford has discontinued the pulley on the water pump. The brkts. I have are off of 94-95 Mustang 5.0.

I'm looking for a pulley, part # F4ZZ-8509-A. Anyone have one??

Ya need a water pump pulley with no grooves in it? That should be NO problem to find bro. Heck, I prolly got 3 of them laying around. Summit, Jeg's, March, etc etc.

Even though Ford D/C it, that item is still VERY available.

I'll check around here, SUNNY, WARM FLORIDA, and if I can't find one I'll let you know and buy, beg, borrow or steal one from you.

Thanks for the reply.
