Default Well... DYNO!

Sorry guys I didnt dyno my car "if you cared anyway" but here is another very interesting thing to look at and too consider what mine could really be making now. Now you will see that I have better compression, better carb, better heads, better headers, better intake, mabye less% drop from my manual, but not a better cam. Could my combo come out to be better or worse than what his is. What do you all think ?This is a person on another forum who just got his car dynod the results were:

RPM HP TORQUE
3500 145 217.58
4000 190 249.47
4500 235 274.27
5000 255 267.85
5500 270 257.82
6000 280 245.09
6500 290 234.32

All values are “Read Wheel Values”
Engine;
1990 5.0-HO Bottom end with 8.5:1 flat tops, Ford Racing X-303 Cam, Ford Racing Y-303 Heads with Crane Gold 1.6 rockers, Performer RPM and a 1406-600 CFM Carb, Doug Thorly “Try-Y” headers into a full flow “X” crossover straight pipe exhaust using only 12" glass packs.
Transmission;
1966 Costume Built C-4 with an 10” “Edge Racing “ 2600 rpm stall torque converter.

Well, you know you can have the exact same stuff as someone else and still be way off his/her combo when it comes to power.

As goes for this guys combo, . It doesn't make any sense!!!!! 8.5 to 1 compression w/ an X-cam!!!!! And a 2600 stall converter??????And oh yea,....glass packs..haaaaaaaaa, come on What did he do, put his combo together at Pep Boys. Look those numbers seem fabricated, if it truly made those numbers (BS ) then he made it, inspite of it not because of it!
By the way your combo as a whole is 100 times better then his!!
Just get your dynoed or go to the track when you are able too.

That's my two cents......glass packs ha-ha-ha---holy shyte---haa haa. damb!!

didnt stock the 1990 302 produce close to 300 ft pounds of torque at the engine ?

and 8.5 comp with y303 heads ? Why does he plan on adding a power adder or N20 ?

You could add a single N2O system to a stock 302 and have more hp and torque for less than his heads.

this is a example of what was the engine designed for ?

My engine without the turbo's dyno's real low but as its made for boost with the turbo's it blows the tires off the dyno.

Still havent used the N2O with the turbo's myself.

Ya but his set up might have messed some things up. The edelbrock 600 cfm carb isnt a real hot one and it has less compression than stock. The X-303 is for manuals and high compression " which he does not have" So those few things might have really screwd with his horsepower and torque. That is why I am asking what you guys would think of my combo seeing as mine prolly would work better than his =ing more horsepower and torque.

8.5:1 VS 9.0:1 compression- I have no idea on what a gain mine would have over his?

Y-303 Heads- "intake port 160cc" "exhaust port 53cc" hp gain 40

X-303 Heads- "intake port 178cc" "exhaust port 62cc hp gain 65

Edelbrock Rpm "air gap" Intake- they say around 8 horsepower over rpm intake.
625 demon carb vs 600 carb- it might have a little horsepower increase here and there.
as for your X-303 vs my B-303 he has about a 42" lift gain over mine I really dont know how much horsepower that would be. What do you all think about this ? Any ideas ?

The thing is this,.. I dont believe it made 290 horespower,...PERIOD!!!!!
Your car, if I had to guess, I would hope for some where in the neighborhood of 250-300 horsepower at the wheels. In your car if it weighes about 2500 pounds like you say,..it should go mid 11's. That's if it hooked! In a normal Mustang that weighed 3300 pounds that made 290 horsepower at the wheels should go mid-low 12's, set up correctley! (on a dynojet 248)
Now you can beat yourself up all day and night, but your not going to know untill your at the dyno shop or track. REMEBER ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY, DYNO NUMBERES ARE FOR SHOW, WHILE THE TRACK IS FOR THE DOUGH!

Interesting how the horsepower numbers are all divisible by 5.

Those numbers cant be real. I have never seen an even 20hp pick up from 5500 to 6500. That combo should fall on its face at around 5800.

From what I know they are correct. And his best time was like a 12.6. I cant remember the mph i'll try and find out.
Also, about the cam falling on its face, I cant beleave is true. From what I have read about the X cam is that it makes its peak horsepower at 6200 rpms peak torque @ 3500. Advertisements say Big power gains up to 6500 rpms. So I can almost beleave the numbers at those rpms. Mabye not his exact numbers but where he did meet his peak.

Yes, that's correct. The cam will make power till 6500rpms but with only the correct componets! His combo was by no means correct! (for n/a combo)
Oh, yea you said it went 12.6 right? That was with no traction too right?

its in an old classic truck like my own. And i'm not exactly sure if he ran the 1/4 I think he said that was an estiment. They are really light trucks that just need alot of work to have good traction.

Ok, cool but that guy thinks he made that power too, right?

Yup he stands by it 100%. I told him that mabye the dyno was reading wrong since it did it in increments like that. I told him if he switched his cam that he would prolly gain horsepower but he does not beleave it would help at all and that he was fine with the way it was. Do you guys know what kind of power the stock torque 1990 5.0 made at the wheels? Isnt it like 260 ?

I completely agree with 420nitro. You're kidding, right? 8.5:1 with an x cam? Please, take some advice from someone who has had several combos...DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST! It will save you're friend lots of money in the long run. He won't be wasting $ on parts that do not match. I'm not insulting him. I just don't want him to make the same mistakes I did.

This person is by far a friend of mine. He was just someone that replyd to a post of mine about how much power I was making and he shared his combo "which I also thought was very wierd because I know a little about the 5.0 motor. I kinda looked back at the specs on the X cam after he said he had 8.5:1 I couldnt beleave he would do that with the X and on top of that have an automatic with it.
