Unhappy Well, went to track tonight!

I went to the track and ran a 12.78 @109.83 in the 1/4 mile.

Here is what happened, we went for the first pass at 5lbs of fuel pressure (did not know it was that low) and 34 degrees total timing and went 12.84@109.10mph.
Next run we turned up the fuel pressure to 7lbs and turned the timing to 38 degrees and ran 12.94@109.47mph.

Next we turned the timing back to 30 degrees and ran 12.94@109.10 again.

Here is what the car is doing, I come off the line and it bogs really bad, at about 4500 rpm's it comes alive then I shift at 6000 and it bogs when it hits the next gear and does the same thing in 3rd.
The best ET happened when I tried taking it to 6500 rpm's but it feels like I hit a rev-limiter at 6000 and I think I am running out of cam.

Tony at hp performance says I don’t have enough port velocity and we need to go back to a 650 carb and the performer rpm intake.
He also said if I had run the n2o that it would have loved the bigger ports.

The best time was when I tried to take it to 6500 rpm’s and it did not want to go that high but when I shifted, it did not bog near as bad.

My best 60ft was a 2.10 with no wheel spin bogging really badly.

Any opinions or comments ? Keep in mind that I want it to be streetable.
I still have the performer rpm and 650 so do you think it will help and if so how much?

Five0, look at my setup in my sig, it is not that much different then yours except for the trans and cam. Last time I went to the track I was having a problem with traction, and had a trans that would not shift into 2nd unless the rpm's went down to 2500, and managed to pull off a 12.2 If you have any questions E-mail me I will try to help out.

Obviously the 650 and the dual plane worked for you before, so what I'm about to say really makes no difference, but I gotta say that looking at your stats, the two things that jumped out at me was the 3" exhaust and the 3.55's. I just can't help but think you'd do better with 4.10's, or 3.73's with nos. I also would be leary of not having sufficient back pressure to get any torque off the line when you need it.

But, like I said, you already know it works, it just triggers red flags with me. Sorry!

Tell me about the carb (jets / PV / squirters / accelerator pump sizes as well as which pump cams you are using. If the 750 and the single plane are causing your bog, gears would fix it. Also, you're going to need more than a 650 can give you before it's over. How fast did your vacuum come up, or did it?

Hmmmm....

You know anyone with a Predator?

Take care
~Chris

i would say you need more gear.the 3.55 don"t give you any help geting off the line and the victor jr keeps you from haveing bottom end torque.if your running on motor only i would go to at least a 4.10 if useing nos 3.73.is your carb a mech secondary or vacum.the 3.55 dose'nt keep your rpms up in the range the need to be with the cam you have and the cam stops working about 5800 to 6000 rpms.i wouldn't turn the motor over 5800.how are you leaveing stalling it up or flashing the converter.

I tried both stalling and flashing the converter and flashing had better results.

As far as the carb I don't know what is all in it, I had it tuned by a shop and it runs a lot better since they tuned it.
It also kept fouling out plugs and now it is not.
PKRWUD: I am also concerned about the 3" exhaust but I did not think it would be a problem at the time.
I am thinking about putting 2 pairs of mufflers on the car to make it more quite and running pipes out the back instead of turndowns but I don't know how it would work out so I am open to suggestions.

As far as the gears I am already going through the traps at almost 5600 rpm's at 109 and don't think it would do to well with more gear. I don't know why the rpm’s are so high but they are.

I do have nos but I have not run it yet.

Dude, the AOD tranny has crappy first and second gears. FFRP makes a kit for you. It's called a wide ratio upgrade kit (part number M-7398-D). It includes enhanced hardware, bands, clutches, as well as lower first and second gear ratios (2.84:1 and 1.55:1, as opposed to 2.4o and 1.47).

Take care

Figures! I didn't remember for sure, and your link wasn't working at the time, so I couldn't check.

Anyway, going to a T-5 is an excellent idea!

Take care
